So what did you pay for you Dakota?
About a year ago I bought a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab 4X4 with 4.7L V8, leather, basic power equipment, and auto transmission for $1500. The motor had 180K miles and no compression from 2 cylinders. Since I purchased it I replaced the engine with another 4.7L, catalytic converters (California cat so not cheap), all (4) 02 sensors, the exhaust system with a flow master dual exhaust with tips, radiator, harmonic balancer (learned the hard way it cannot be removed with a pry bar), trans cooler, rear suspension shackle, and the grille and bracket which were broken. Other things I've added since are 5 new tires (didn’t come with a spare so had to buy a replacement spare rim as well) 16'' General Grabber AT2s, the bed liner, the "crate-n-go" system from the 2008-11 Dakotas, floor mats, and a steering wheel cover. In total after this past year I'm up to about 6K which includes the price of the truck and getting it tagged/registered. The only necessity that's left and I’m waiting for the Spring to do so is the evaporator/heater cores, blower motor, and air filter which are all behind the dash and will cost about another $600 or so to have done. Heat works great for the winter but I’m not going through another summer without AC even though gas mileage hasn't been good already. Right now I have a PO442 code coming up so I’ll be replacing the gas cap since it appears to be the original but I was told that it could possibly be the charcoal canister, or the hoses/wires connected to it. We shall see.
Hello, to all. Picked up my '97 318 4x4 Dakota for 3700. It was a pastor's personal vehicle. He just put on some brand new 31 x 10.5's and a tractor supply tool box. It had 162k on it. His son owns a dealership and tuned it up for him real nice. It runs great. I am just getting started doing things little by little to it. Love this truck and looking forward to doing a lot more!
1989 3.9L dodge dakota. Free, it was my uncle's truck brand new, then my Mom's when he passed away, after I got a house Mom gave it to me. So far I've had to do new tires and brakes, and a new intake manifold gasket plus all the tuneup parts while I was in there. Otherwise it has been reliable, love it.
$250. 88 2WD long bed 3.9L 3-spd auto. 198K miles.
Body and interior straight and clean (paint's peeling a bit).
previous owner parked it in 2004 due to oil pressure problems.
purchased last summer, by that time the fuel pump had locked
up, too. Replaced both, 65 psi oil pressure, no strange noises
from the engine. Needs a little more work (tires, brakes, water
pump, possibly a radiator) but I should have it on the road by
June.
Might put a 318 in it just for sh*ts and giggles.
