I was wondering about how much the swap would cost and what else i would need to change besides the transmision. i have a 3.9 with 5 speed tranny.</P>

to start with, new engine mounts. theengine should bolt up to the 5sp tranny, and then just hook the computer up the right way.</P><edited><editID>MonteC</editID><editDate>37981.6737615741</editDate></edited>

 

Well the 5.2 and the 5.9 are basicly the same motor....and the 3.9 IS a 5.2 with two less cylinders, so the mounts need to be changed but the tranny should be fine. You will need a new PCM, throttle cable, and wire harness...along with a handfull of odds and ends.

actually i was reading up on it on another dakota site and for the v8 swap because the 3.9L and the 5.2L engine are the same, you don't even need new mounts it all lines up, but thats just what i read, so sorry if i'm wrong

 

How about you ask someone that has done the switch already... Go to one of the following sites, register and do a search before you just post how to do a 3.9 to 5.9 swap. The questions been asked alot and alot have done the conversion. Better know to know what you need than to waste money....</P>

Fan shroud must be replaced with corrected one for V-8 or shortened by two inches approximately. Computer should be changed. Wiring harness needs wires added for two extra cylinders. Everything else will work the same way.
