Default computer upgrade

Would a new computer be the best upgrade for 1989 2.2 turbo auto or would a manual trannsmission be?

Upgrade for power, top speed, fuel economy, or just to spend money?

An aftermarket engine management unit could be useful for future engine upgrades or even turbo upgrades. A manual trans will really only give you more control over engine rpm/vehicle speed.

What kind of supporting mods do you have? A computer is a great upgrade for a turbo car, but, unless you have the supporting mods (bigger exhaust, bigger injectors, etc.) you will probably want to stick with a stage one. Cindy at FWD performance does custom cals for the TD's (I have a stage 3 for my IROC RT) and they ROCK!

FWD Performance.... They have every stage of cal you need. 2 bar, 3 bar. Anything you want. You can take a look at there offerings at www.fwdperformance.com and look in the calibration section. They do great work.
Here is her (Cindy) number if you would like to call and talk to her about it. She will get you set up with everything you need. 281-288-4411... She rocks!

That is a great site. Another is www.dodgegarage.com which is concidered to be the TurboDodge bible. Read it, then read it again. lol Graniger valves are great, but if you want to get more than 3 psi extra, you need to do a re-cal or a map bleed. If not done correctly, a map bleed can turn your motor into a very cool ashtray. A map clamp fools the computer into thinking its not running as much boost as it is, so there for, if your running 20 psi, the map clamp could be making the computer think its only running 13, so your running too much timing and not enough fuel for 20 psi and the computer has no clue. So, if you do a grainger and set if for more than 13.5, you will hit boost/fuel cut if you dont have a map bleed or a cal. And with a map bleed you better have it set right, and be monitoring the A/F and knock if you want to be really safe. With a cal, you can get a 3 bar map sensor, and run 15+ safely because the computer knows whats going on, and can give it the right amount of fuel and timing.
Hope that helps.

yea, on mine i have the vavle and im running 13 but im not getting a good mix so its notpulling like it should. And when I run wide open it hits cut out. So i think the best set up will be the new computer and a 3 bar map sensor so I can get some serious boost.

Agreed. You can still use your grainger with the cal to get the faster spool up. The stage 4 cal she carries is set for 16 psi with fuel cures all the way to 25! So, if you want to run the stock boost soliniods, it will run 16 psi like that, or you can use the grainger to turn it up. Realise that the turbo will probably run out of breath before you can make the stocker run 25, but you wont be hitting fuel cut anymore. Also, the stage 4 requires that you buy +40% injectors. I think you mentioned you had +20% on yours which will be good for up to the stage three I think. Give her a call and talk to her about it, she will get you set up with everything you need to make that car run its total best. She is a great lady to work with!
Hope this helps.
