head porting
No offense, but if this is your first time porting, a head is usually not a beginer's job because the head is aluminum and it is real easy to screw up. If you want to get into porting I'd try doing a junkyard exhaust manifold or intake manifold first a couple times to get the hang of it, then you can try yours out once you have it down. I've personnally never tried it myself, but from everyone I've talked to getting the head done proffesionally is the way to go. Just think of it this way, it'd be cheaper than a new head
I had mine done by Mike Holler. Check this link where Mike tells us how to port.
While it's not easy if you've never done it, it's not rocket science either. You probably will trash a head before you get one done 'right'. Go to the junk yard and grab one or two especially if find some with cracks. You may be able to convince the junk yard owners to let you have them to practice on.
Check out this link. There are several articles which describes the work he did for my engine. My 2.2 should produce in the area of 200 HP at 12psi boost or less while giving me around 40mpg. I know these claims seem a but out there but based on the performance he's had on other engines my goals are modest. I'll know over this next year as I complete the rebuild of my TurboZ and get it on the road. My goal is to have it at Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals next year with my other Daytona.

www.lonewolfperformance.com Best TD head porter out there. Hands down. Who elses daily driven, full weight, 4 door family car runs 11.6@120+? He did my head, and the work was just awesome. Flow numbers were awesome on it as well. 280cfm@.350" intake 224cfm@.350" exhaust. (DOHClotus head)
The vid in my sig has some good shots of the work.

With respect I'm sure he can port a killer head. But the work I had done was specific. I didn't have it ported for baulz to the wall power. That's for others. I ported it for MAX effeciency for specific goalswhich in my case was not a grocery getter that will do a 11 second quarter mile.Rather an engine that willbe respectable at car shows and cruises. A 'good' head porter can accomplish both power and economy. That's what my head will produce.
I guess if I wanted to boost it to 20+ it would also be an 11 second car but my goals are specific. 200HP at about 12psi or less and while cruising on the highway I wanted great mileage. I think 40+MPG will qualify.
So to say that one person is the best head porter is totally subjective. I'm sure he's good as are others but to port a head specifically to do reach specific goals take an artist.
The original question here was not who to have port a head but where to learn how to port a head. Does LoneWolf publish articles on how this is done and what the science is behind it? If so I'm sure that homeboysduster would be happy to read them and learn from them too.
Porting while an art is not rocket science. Once you know what you're doing, with practice you can reach the goals you set for the project.

His getting 37mpg on the highway is horrible fuel milage isnt it in his 11 sec. grocery getter! lol thats just crap. And I am averaging 27 IN THE CITY with his head, cams, intake and exhaust mani. The guy is a TD guru. I wanna see your dyno sheet where your 8 vavle car makes 200whp on 12 psi. Not going to happen with the stock turbo. But my 16v is whoopin on modded SRT4s and I am only running .8bar!Havent had her to the dynoyet, but probably wont untill the 3barcal is in. So, anytime you would like to compare numbers, let me know, he has done tons of 8 valve heads and I can get a few of the people that have them to come chime in as well. Your right, to each his own, but this guys work speaks for its self.
Oh, and you mentioned your car will be in car shows, as if his spirit RT is not show quality. Well, the 4 page spead on his RT in the june 2006 issue of sport compact car mag begs to differ. Let me know, I will send ya a copy.
11.6@120 37mph highway, and show quality....

Here's a link where one of Mike's heads delievered 195WHP and 212pound feet of torque at 11psi - dyno'd. http://www.sheenconsulting.com/car/
You have to look down toward the middle of the page but if you do a control F when on the page and then enter 195WHP you should find it on the page. Getting 200 at 12 or so shouldn't be hard at all. You 'assume' that other things are stock such as the turbo and other parts of the exhaust and intake. Had you taken the time to read the articles I referenced you may have noticed that in addition to the head I'm NOT using the stock turbo or intake. I don't see any problem in reaching my goals.
Look, I see no reason to get into a pissing contest with you like the ones generated on the TD forums(not necessarily involving you). All I said was that for someone, anyone to state that anyone else is 'the best' of all out there is a bit on the extreem side.
Especially since the original poster was only looing for information on now to port heads.
The articles I referenced did that without stating that this guy was the best or anyone else was not worthy. Take a chill pill for goodness sakes.

Yes, I did make the assumption that other stuff was stock. My bad. And I wasnt looking for a pissing match either. lol You will not have a problem reaching your goals. All of the info would have prevented this, but, anyway. Good luck to ya.
Sorry for the thread hijack. lol
