I need a multi-function switch for my 1990 Dodge Daytona ES. The part number is 5269468. Could someone please help me find one? (lights and signals don't work) We can't find this obsolete part anywhere.

While we are trying to fix this part, other electrical problems are now happening with the radio and door locks. The car might need a muffler exhaust system made by Meineke. The wheel barrings might also need work. I can see putting $1000 into fixing this car. We just bought it for $1000. Should we cut our losses now or try to find the parts and fix it? There is an amazing new sterio in the car and it just had a new transmission put in. Much of the car is really wonderful. Comments please...

 

Napa and autozone both show a turn signal switch for your vehicle. If you think that is the problem?

You might call a dodge dealership and talk to the service department. If they can't find what you need, you might try a salvage yard?

It's hard to say without seeing the car...

If you can do any of these fixes yourself, most of them wouldn't be too expensive (ie wheel bearings, switch replacement).

I replaced that switch in an es that I used to have and it was a pain getting at it, but you can do it with patience. I don't remember now exactly what had to be taken off, but I know that we didn't take the whole dash apart, we squeezed it out of the opening between two trim pieces.

It the car is nice otherwise, I would keep it and put a little money into it. You probably could drive it a long time with a new tranny if the engine is in decent shape.

Buttt, if you do drop another $1000 into it, you probably wouldn't get that back right away if you try selling it.

Just something to think about.

You would probably be best off checking the swap meet areas of the Mopar Nationals or the Chrysler Classics.

The wheel bearings can be found on Rockauto.com, I had to replace my rear bearings not too long ago because they had slight play. I'm pretty sure an exhaust is easy to find on one of these sites. I had similar thoughts about cutting losses with my R/T when I first got it for a lot of similar problems, but if you like it there's no reason to sell it. Drive it, enjoy it.

Don't get rid of her. I have a 90 myself and have owned it for 13 yrs. So far I have put in it:

Top half engine rebuild
New Trans
New Paint
Rt. axle
New exhaust from Cat to back
Floor pan in passengers side
Various other parts that have baled over the years.
OEM Factory hubcaps--50 bucks for all 4 on Ebay
OEM Factory aluminum louver--30 bucks at a junkyard
OEM Factory bra--5 bucks at a yard sale

Ok, these cars are quirky when it comes to the electrical system, but once you fix it, you will have one great car.

I paid $5,000. for her 13 yrs ago and I have spent so far approx. $7,000. So if you average that out you figure I have spent about $550.00 a year in repairs. This also counts any maintenance items. I have 146K on her now and will be spending to get the driver's floor pan replaced, the wheel wells and rocker panels redone. Once she is done, she's going to get shown at Carlisle at the Chrysler Nationals.

The only advice to you is if you are doing the work yourself, before you do anything,take it to a reputable body shop and have them go over the undercarriage of the car for rot. My car gets looked over EVERY time it goes for repairs(same mechanic has done the work for as long as I have owned her, so there is a serious trust levelwith this guy)so I don't have any "surprises". I learned the hard way from my first failed resto job.
