Daytona Ignition Problem
I have an ’88 Daytona Shelby Z TII. The engine sometimes just cuts out and dies while driving down the road or just sitting idling. When the engine dies code 54 shows up (distributor sync pick-up circuit). After sitting for a few minutes the engine will start and die again at some other inconvenient time. I replaced the hall effect pick-up and checked the wiring from the hall effect pick-up to the computer. I have even wiggled the wires while the engine was running and could not get the car to die. I read the post from about a year ago, but it did not say if or what fixed the problem. Any help is appreciated. [X(]
I have a 87 Shelby z. About 5 years ago I had the same problem with the engine cuting out while driving. I finally figured out that it was the distributor. When you remove the cap and the hall effects moduel you will notice that their is a metal plate held in place with 4 plastic rivets, these rivets wear out causing the plate to shift and causing a misalignment with the hall effect moduel. You can replace the plate and shaft or the distributor. I got mines from the junk yard, dealers wanted to sell the hold distributor for much $$.
