A check valve on the return fuel line
Can anyone tell me why there's a check valve on the fuel return line, inside of the fuel tank? PLEASE NOTE: That valve prevents the fuel NOT from draining OUT of the return line, and INTO the tank, but RATHER, it prevents fuel from suctioning FROM the tank, and INTO the return line, in REVERSE of its normal direction of flow. Why is such a check valve even NEEDED!?! Can I simply remove that check valve? That's what I plan to do, if no one can provide a reason it's necessary.
The problem is that the return line is clogged inside the tank, thus restricting flow of the return line into the tank, and causing excessive fuel pressure. I know, because when I disconnect the return line from the back of the tank, and run fuel directly into a bucket (i.e., NOT INTO the tank thru the return line's hose and check valve), the pressure drops from 40 psi to its normally prescribed 14.5 psi +-1.
