Daytona Dies and Idles Rough after 15 minutes.
Daytona is a 90 3.0 6 cyl. FI. I have replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs and the fuel filter and rubber lines because they were cracking. It runs great for about 15 - 20 minutes, then when I go to slow down or stop, it either dies or idles really ruff when idling smokes like crazy and has a wierd smell) until it dies unless I punch the gas pedal. My speedometer and tach, work when they want to, just like in the other posts. I have read the other posts and found some to help, but the problem still persists.
Possibly a bad Oxygen sensor making it run really rich once the engine gets up to operating temp. You can test the sensor with a torch (flame) and an multimeter if you want.
I changed the O2 sensor today, same problem. When I took the air intake hose off it had gas in it, so it is getting way to much gas. Also someone suggested that it also could be that the catalytic converter could be clogged? Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
A clogged cat would be more noticable under load, it would create a loss of power. Having the engine running extremely rich (basically dumping fuel into the exhaust) will kill the catalytic converter quickly. A clogged cat shouldn't cause fuel to be in the intake hose though.
You could try removing the exhaust (the cat back) and see if the problem goes away before buying a new cat.
