Default high idle

I have a 1991 ES body with a 2.5 n/a engine. I am getting a CEL for EGR...however there is no EGR system on my car at all. This is not the original motor obviouslly.
The car likes to keep a high rev after a good sprint on the freeway. as high as 3k or more.
I am getting a few things going on though.... sometimes I hit the accelerator and the car almost stalls....then takes off ok. I have cleaned out the carb.....and the cable is not sticking, nor is the butterfly sticking open/closed. I cannot find a vacuum leak.....
I don't know much about fuel injected carbs..... I understand fuel injected systems pretty good......but I know nothing about the car.
Anyone else have any ideas I can explore....i was going to goto the junkyard and get a carb or two and swap out. I just don't want to spend cash on parts shot gunning the problem.....I would rather sniper the issue.
thanks for any help folks.

First thing to the best of my knowledge all cars after 1970 have some form of EGR system, so you need to find a system with all the bells a whistles and figure out how to install it, secondly the missing EGR system is the likelycauseof your high idle an erratic idle problem. I recently cleaned the EGR system onour 84 Daytona Turbo Z to cure it of asimilar idle problem.Lastlyyour engine has fuel injectors with a throttle body not a carburator. I hopethis will help you get your Daytona on the road.

Thanks for the input....I will have to tear it all down someday soon.

I have a fuel injected carborator. complete with fuel pressure regulator inside it.
I am 100% sure it is not a throttle body.
I tore the top end apart and there is no place for the EGR to bolt up to.
I checked on other cars in the junk yard lookong for how the EGR goes in....and found that my engine (intake manifold) is not equipped for a system.
The intake manifold just dont have the ports where you would put the EGR valve.
Someone pulled the V6 and installed a turbo motor....then yanked that and installed a 2.5 n/a. This car is a junk yard mutt.
EGR systems were not that common til the late 80's.

Wrong manifold, the EGR is not on the intake manifold. It is on the exhaust manifold. I beleive it is on the drivers side of the exhaust manifold. You should be able to see it from the top, after you remove a few things. It should have two bolts holding it on to the manifold. And probably aone or twovaccum lines. EGR valves have been used on all Chrysler products since the eary to mid 70's

It sounds like you have the fuel injected throttle body. They where used on the 2.2's and maybe the 2.5's of that era in the Daytonas and the mid 80's Chrysler lasers.

Sounds like the engine is out of a shadow or sundance. They used the 2.5 with a throttle body that LOOKED like a carb, but it had the injector right in the middle. And yes, these did have an egr system on it. Lean over the drivers side fender and look behind the where the transmission bolts to the engine. You should see the backpressure tranducer (a vacuum valve with a couple vacuum lines on it). The line on the bottom will run to the egr valve. It will be held on with to bolts or nuts and have a pipe that runs to the exhaust manifold. All 2.2 and 2.5 dodge/chrysler engines used an egr system, but they are not all easy to find... And they are NOT that easy to get off... I've been trying to get the egr of my Laser to replace it for about 3 years now...

Thanks..... I have no idea what car the engine came from....just that every time i bought a part, the 2.5 parts fit.
I will explore the rear engine area this weekend and see what I see. If it helps any one..... I have the engine with the rear torque strut mount...... which are not that common and I couldn't find any place that will sell them new. I junk yarded one in for now....but still get alot of motor movment.
the other motor mounts have been replaced and bolts are fitting snug......I tried to even weld up some additional braceing for the front mount..... which seems to be in great shape...

What are the complications of swapping out the manifolds and installing the turbo set up from other cars..... internal wise, is there alot of risk involved? Or are they tough enough to handle it?

Having sorta same problem, just swapped out motors & installed rebuilt 2.5 turbo. Mechanic that did the work says it is set up to race. When started up revs high & slow to excelerate then finally kicks in & goes. The motor was rebuilt in California. Thinking maybe the EGR valve you
guys were talking about. Taking to speed shop first of Feb & see what they suggest. Wish all a Blessed
New Year.

I found on the exhaust mani where the EGR was suposta be.... I found it when i was replacing my bearings. Which leads to the next question..... as my motor is bad.... (minor knock still)....
I have a 91 ES body. I am pretty sure the ES's were all V6..... what all is involved with installing the V6 in the chassis. I cannot see any "cut" wires.... I know very little about the car. It currently has a 2.5 n/a....there was once a turbo 2.5 turboinstalled but that was pulled out by a past owner. I think it was born a V6....but do not know for sure.
All i know is I am needing to replace the motor or scrap the car. The body is not really worth much as the frame and undercarridge is rusted too much to put too much cash into it. I can get a 2.5 for about $150 or a V6 for $200.

the current motor had just had an oil change.... was not leaking any.....nor really smoking at all. But burned through 2 quarts in 1 week somehow without me noticing.... got a knock... I tried installing new bearings....and that worked..... to quiet it. but 3k+ the quiet knock is noticable.
