Um, what about the F150 XLT?
Enjoy and appreciate all the time and effort you guy spend on your posts. Thanks for all your great efforts!
I drive a 2000 Toyota Tundra V8 4.7, 66K, and it’s time to trade for new technology and safety features. For those of you who read the F150 forum, I asked this same question and got very positive encouragement for the ‘09 XLT. Now I’m agonizing because, after reading your posts, the Ram 1500 looks like a gem.
‘09 Tundra and Silverado aren’t considered. Dodge and Ford build better trucks, as you guys well know.
So here are my issues:
Question #1: Let’s assume the guys who own F150 lemons are isolated incidents, it can happen. How does Ram compare to Ford F150 XLT, besides slightly more power and acceleration? (Ram criticisms center on interior cheapo look and feel; Ford positives are its crew cab storage, flat floor, reliability.)
Question #2: Why should I buy a diesel if it’s less available, costs the same or more than gasoline and mileage is worse?
Many thanks in advance to all who reply.

Well, I asked myself the same question when in search for a replacement for my 04 Jeep Rubicon. All my buddies drive F150s. I was on my way to look at one a month ago. One of my F150 buddies' told me if I was buying new to check out the Ram due to all the incentives. The only dealership in town was a Dodge. I am good friends with the owner so I called him.
I never got outta town. I absolutely love my Ram 1500 CC Sport Hemi! I have ridden in my buddy's new F150, but it just doesn't compare to the Ram.
Also, the Ram has a lifetime Powertrain Warranty and better MPG..to name a few.
I think the Fords make great trucks but it just doesn't compare to this beast! My buddy took a ride in my Ram and wished he had check into it this last fall when he bought his 09 F150 XLT.
Go HEMI and never look back!!!

I looked hard at the new F-150 and I have to say it is a nice truck. The styling of the grill is not really my style. The interior is nice. but I think the "leather" wrapped dash in the Ram Sport is really trick. Now for the reasons I bought the Ram:
1. Price, you can't beat the bang for the buck.
2. Power, the Hemi is something you just can't argue with 407 lb.ft. of torque, nuff said on that!
3. Styling, this truck just looks MEAN! This truck was love at first sight!
4. Warranty, a lifetime (87 years really) drivetrain warranty kind of over rules reliability. Which we all know what Ford stands for. . .
5. The ride, this truck became the family trip vehicle over the minivan, quieter, smoother, more comfortable, more room (for me and that's what's important!)
Some down sides are that it is just so cool and looks awesome that people won't quit looking at me! My experience with Ford is that they have their issues too just like any manufacturer these days, they just keep it quite by not issuing recalls. Chrysler is making a statement with the best warranty available.
Test drive both, with the options you would get. Don't drive a loaded F-150 and then an SLT Ram, or the other way around. Don't test drive a loaded Ram first, you won't get the chance to test drive Ford if you know what I mean
Oh yeah, you usually get better gas mileage with a diesel. Like over 20 on the highway. Not an option on the Ram anyway.

It's really what ever you want. Drive both and make your decision. There are pros and cons to each.
I'm a GM guy, but when my truck was wrecked and needed another truck none of the Chevy or GMC dealers within a 100 mile radius around me had a truck that I wanted, and if I ordered one, it would still be $5,000 to $7,000 more than I paid for the Ram. Plus, the only engine that puts out the power the Ram does is an option that nobody has unless you order it - it's a 6 to 8 week wait if the plants keep open.
I really like the Ram, I don't love it. The seats in my GMC were more comfortable and it had an more secure, solid, well planted feel. I feel once I change the rims and tires to a lower profile that will help to get rid of some of the "wallow" it has at speed. I really like the nav and hard drive set-up, the Mopar nav blows the one in my Vette away. I've got the Sport package and that has the exhaust with a nice rumble when you get on it and it pretty quiet at cruise - it's almost Corsa-like.
The on item that really irks me on the Ram is the plastic "chrome clad" wheels. For a truck that is priced over $40K it should come with real chrome wheels - the wheels are nice looking, but I want real wheels for that price.
Again, on the F150, it's what you like. If you come to this forum and you ask about the Dodge, you'll get all positive responses. If it was me, I'd stay away from Ford - Run, run away as fast as you can. I've owned 2 Fords and they both self destructed in less than 2 years. Ford's customer service sucks. When I called them and complained, all I got was, "I'm sorry you feel that way sir, is there anything else I can do for you sir?" And at the end of the conversation they asked me if I would recommend a Ford to my friends and family. I told them absolutely.....not!
The choice is up to you.

If you are even considering an oil burner Dodge wait until the 10 model. Nothing wrong with the 09, but the 10 will be better over all.
As for Ford vs. Dodge.... Ford had lots of issues with TSBs, not sure if they still do or not. Ford use to think, at least as of the early 00s that TSBs are no big deal and they just kept carrying them over year to year rather than fix them. If something is wrong that it warrants a TSB then it needs fixed before the next model year.
The Ram rides better
The Ford will pull more (But are you ever going to pull 10K?)
The Ram has more power
The Ram looks better, of course that is opinion and you should form your own about that.

I've tested all of the new f150 models against comparable new models of the ram, silverado, and tundra. The media event was held by ford, so they of course picked tests that allowed the f150 to shine...and shine it did. I'm no ford guy by any means but ford yas done one hell of a job with te new f150; across seemingly all trimlines. Ford has a bigger towing capacity and lots more gadgets but the ram offers a ton more power. Fords engines continue to lack power but they try to make up fr that with other items tob make it better for towing. If icouldnt get a ram I'd buy an f150 and before spending a few days beating new f150s I wuldnt have considered a ford truck...but keep in mind fords trucks were initially engineered by horace and john dodge.
