Default Oil Change Message Info

Ok, so I changed my oil in my truck at about 2000 miles. I now have 2900 on the truck and about a week ago I got a message showing to contact dealer for oil change. Obviously no need to do that because I did it myself. I read the instruction manual to see how to get rid of the message and did so.

What I want to know is will a new message show when its time to change the oil? Is there a setting to program how many miles you want in order to be reminded when to change the oil? I set my odometer on Trip B to see how many miles I go before changing the oil as an FYI. Since I put Mobil 1 in I figure that every 4000-5000 miles should be good.

Thanks!
Brian

Thats a good question. If you use a synthetic, your oil changes are less frequent. What happens if you are due for an oil change by the maintenance schedule, but you do not need an oil change. Now you have no signature from the dealer at 6000 miles. How can this affect the warranty. I want to follow the schedule absolute!

So anyone know if there is a way to program the amount of miles to remind yourself about your next oil change? I had a Grand Cherokee before my Ram and I was able to set the miles from 2500 to 5000 as a reminder for the next oil change.

I have never heard of needing a signature from a mechanic stating your oil has been changed in my entire life to honor any warranty.

Ive changed my own oil in every vehicle Ive ever owned and never lost a waranty over lack a mechanics signatures or any other reason.

But who knows what the Goverment Motor Company's new comunist ideals will bring to the auto industry.

Keep your receipts for the oil, grease, filters etc. Keep a log. It is pretty obvious when you open an engine if a person changes the oil or not. I was so surprised when I opened my 72 chevy over 100000 miles and it was sparkling in there. Supposedly never opened, not even timing chain which I believe, it was loose. Just oil and filter every 3000 miles.
This new oil change schedule in my book does not jive with when the light comes on for time for and oil change.
Salesmen tell you it measures viscosity, and other things in order to know when to turn the light on.............BS, its a time, mileage calculation, same as you do yourself. 3000 miles or 2 or 3 months which ever comes first.
Not only that the owners manual recommends a certain way to rotate tires but the dealer wants to do them a different way, so if my tires wear all f'ed up they should buy me new ones right?

My oil story:
Had not had the message even until around 4000 miles so i just changed it anyway, at 4000.
Message pops up at 5700, thought it was weird so just changed it at 6000-- AND used synthetic
Message popped up again at 8700...this is bull****.
How do u get the message off?

Owners manual has all the information you need.

I agree, the owners manual will tell you. I recall reading somewhere that you have to have the key on (not running) and press the gas pedal to the floor three times, or something to that extent.

Owners manual says 6000 miles for regular service. I changed mine around 2500 miles with mobil 1. I will go approx 3k miles and change only the filter and top off the oil. Then when I get the message I will do a full oil/filter change. My dealer told me to just keep a record of when it was done and what oil I used, said I didn't need the reciepts. So on the blank pages in the back of owners manual, I just put date, what service I did, and what brand product I used. Since I'm trading in for a rambox I showed the dealer what I had done and he was happy with it, said that's perfect. Guess it's really up to the dealer you use. If they want to be dicks they will be.
