Tire Rub ?? Should be easy
I'm going to switch from my 35's to something smaller. My question is.....
Is it the height of the tire or the width that causes the rubbing? I currently have 35x12.5's on there..... the tires I'm looking at are either 33x11.5 or 34x11.5's.... just don't want to buy a brand new set and have them rubbing again...

Well to be honest I have them on Classic 2's with a pretty heavy offset... at this point I don't think spacers are an option. The tires themselves were used at the time so no biggie.... I just want to make sure I don't get rub with the new ones.
Then just turn to full lock and see what is rubbing. If the tread is into the inner fender liner then they are too tall (with the rims you are using). If the sides are touching something then they are too wide or you need a rim with less offset.
I swear to 'ya man, at full turn I can see the damn thing touching anything....lol...it's wierd

Might need to toss a jack under the a-arm and lift it a little. Might only be an issue when the suspension loads or unloads a little like it would when cornering.
Either way... 33x11.50's should be money right? I mean the thing came with 33's and with the tiny amount of rubbing I'm getting should be gone with subtracting an inch or two on both the height and width.
Follow up to this too... I'm looking at Terra Grapplers.... wth is the difference between LightTruck and Passenger tires of the same make and size?

Should be ok on the size. As for LT vs P the difference is load capacity and the PSI that they get inflated to. P tires are usually inflated to around 35-40 psi, LT's usually run 50-80psi. The LT will be good for an extra 500 - 1000 lbs of load capacity per tire.
Normally I would switch to LT's since I tow a lot but the tire pressure monitoring system complicates this since the LT's inflated properly would look like an over-pressure to the system. The LT's will also ride rougher due to the higher pressure and stiffer sidewalls.
