Default Towing question

I should have asked this before I went and traded in my F-250, but hey, I love this new Ram!
Has anyone tried towing a camper with their gen 4 yet? I am having nagging concerns and really do not want to go get the camper out of storage and mess around having the equalizer hitch reset and hook up just to find out. We pull a 26' Wave trailer with a gross weight of 7200#. The dealer said no problem if I went with the 4x2 and 17" wheels. I have the towing package and 3.55 gears w/ the Hemi of course.
I need to head Momma off at the pass if my new baby fails me.

well,

I dont have the same truck as you...Crew Cab 4x4 Hemi but i have towed my 27' camper already WITHOUT a load distributing hitch and it did fine.. I felt like I was in control...

What are you asking? Will it tow it? Sure. How well? I don't know. All I can tell you mine was AWESOME.

I tow a 35' 6100 dry weight and close to 8000 loaded with 3 adults 2 kids just fine.... CC 4X4 5.7, 3.55, with 20's towed it cross country (baltimore to Idaho and back) with no problems.. I use weight distro bars with sway control....

Yeah, I know the 3.92 would have been better. Problem was finding one that was not the sport model. I know she will not tow like a diesel, just want to keep from horse whipping her up hills. I towed a 26' with my old '76 Adventurer with a 400. You really needed to kick it's a-- to get it up hills. Granted, the 400 was not the hemi, but momma is giving me grief about changing trucks after 20 months. The camper is her baby, the tow vehicle mine.

Crew, no problems at 8k? Now I feel better, if memory serves, that config. is rated at around 6k.

The whole tow ratings deal has me very confused. I had a 05 D limited w/hemi that was rated to tow 9000 lbs with 3.92 gears. Then I had a 07 D limited w/hemi that was rated to tow 7000 lbs with 3.55 gears. Then I bought the 09 Ram CC w/hemi and 3.55 gears that is rated to tow 6300 lbs??? Now Dodge is increasing the tow rating for 2010 with no changes to the truck???

My TT is 6200 lbs dry and about 7000 lbs loaded. Both D's towed it well, I had to push the 07 a little harder going up hills due to the gear difference. The biggest issue was handling. The D's didn't have the wheelbase. So how can a D be rated to tow more than a Ram???

I don't tow often but I have two freinds that bought 09 Rams with the 3.55 gears, their TT are a bit heavier and their trucks pull them fine. Plus Toyota rates their Tundra at 10K???

Just doesn't make sense. Oh well I know my truck will be fine.

I have zero proof of this mind you, but I bet the lower tow rating for the 2009's has more to do with the lifetime powertrain warranty and less to do with what the truck will actually tow/haul.

I tow a 26' tow hauler (est.5,500 dry) I go to a place that has water hook-ups so don't have to figure in that extra weight, but do have 3 ATV's in it so... can't remember actual weight right now. Anyways I have no problem pulling it with my 09 5.7L 3.92 LSD Q/C.
