Adding subs with an RES Headunit
Thinking about adding the JL stealthbox to the truck. I think I currently have the res model headunit. I know I would nned an amp but would I be able to hook up to the head unit correctly with rca's? I dont want some sub rigged by splicing into the rear speakers for input. I would be taking this to a good quality shop I just want to know what I am looking at before I go there. Thanks
So would I be looking at a JL cleansweep to make this install work? Short of installing an aftermarket Pioneer or of sorts. BTW what does the Pioneer evic go for anyways? The cleansweep is almost 300 from Crutchfield. Thinking it might be worth just changing out the headunit if I would need the 300 dollar cleansweep.

Just looked at JL's website and thet aren't showing a stealthbox application for our trucks yet.
Never mind I am an idiot. The 2002 and up box includes the 09's

Just out of curiosity, why don't you just replace the entire RES head unit with an aftermarket one? I have used Alpine and Pioneer Premier units in the past and plan on putting my premier unit in this truck in due time or order a new one from Crutchfield. If you are worried about the Sirius Radio subscription, you should be able to transfer the subscription to another satellite enabled aftermarket unit by calling sirius directly and giving them the "radio id" of the new unit. You can get a great head unit for under $200. My favorite thing about the Premier unit (many others brands have this option too) is that I put all of my music on a 4gig thumb drive that plugs into the unit...no ipod to get stolen or cds to mess with and the songs read out across the display. Having a wireless remote is nice too. If you order from Crutchfield, they send you the wiring harness and mounting kit for free with the head unit that you purchase as well as detailed instructions that make it so easy, that a monkey could install it. Everything you need to do the install is included.
I understand the desire to keep the stock look in the truck, but you will never get the sound and control out of a stock head unit that you will get out of an aftermarket. In addition, when you add an amp and subs, it is essentially just a plug-and-play connection to get everything wired up. I'm not knocking your idea, I just wanted to point out an option that will give you more options and much better sound. I have a couple of friends that have spent the money to make the stock head units (in a Tahoe and an F150) run an amp and subs and they ended up ultimately pulling the stock head unit and put in an aftermarket. Buy the aftermarket unit and you will be much happier. Just my .02c.

true you could prolly buy 2 10"s subs, have a box made and buy a small amp for the $650 that cost.. but i just liked this all in one deal.
later on i will upgrade the subs..
i found mine on ebay for $250 brand new i think.. maybe $300...
by the time you drop in a stealthbox, pay for wiring and buy a amp for it.. you could be over a grand easy

that product has a warning
basically all anyone needs is a line out converter.
the JL cleansweep is basically that but they use digital processing to intesify the lows and highs and basically ensure you have a clean hiss free sound... thats why its so expensive.
but unless your an audiophile or getting in sound offs... a basic line converter should do the trick
Compatibility Notes:
This adapter will not work with vehicles that originally came with an external factory amplifier (ie. Boston Acoustics, Infinity, etc)
