Stock Wrangler HPs in winter
It is October now, and in Ontario that means we are really close to snow.
Just wondering how the Stock Wrangler HPs handle in the snow/ice when they are new?
I am sure with 4wd it will be more then component getting moving, but I still need to be able to stop and turn.
I do plan on waiting for the first good snow fall to see for myself, but let me know what you with experience already think about these tires.
Thanks.

A lot of people on here are going to bash these tires and tell you that they suck. I think you said it the best when you said you are going to see for yourself. Truth is, driving habits play into handling in the snow just as much as tires and 4wd. Now for my experience. I have had these tires on numerous trucks. The one that stands out to me was on my 02. I went hunting deep back in the woods and up a mountain. We where about 7 miles back up in the woods. I encountered snow, ice and mud and the tires where absolutley fine. Now if I had gotten stuck I am not sure how they would have handled but I did not have that problem. With my current truck they to came with this tire and I did drive them in the snow. I am a cautious driver in the snow because I live in VA no( grew up in NH) and they do not know how to drive in the snow. The storm we got was only about 6 inches but it took them days to get the roads clean. The tires performed well and I never really had any issue's. That was on Ice and packed snow. So for me I think they are fine. Now having said this I run BF Goodrich All Terrian's mainly because I like the look and they seem to last longer then the goodyear tires. Hope this helps
Well said. Most people here are going to hate on em but I've been through 3 winters in my 09 and plan on going through a 4th with 40k miles on em. They have performed well in all conditions for me. There's no way I would burn a grand replacing these tires for something that will handle a little better. But try them yourself on a snowday and see what you think, some people really do need better tires for snow.
Only way you are getting stuck in a 4x4 is if you bottom out the frame or axle. Otherwise your tires will be fine for winter. Just slow down on slushy turns.....I haven't experienced it with the pickup but had same tires on my R/T Durango and it was like a front wheel drive car when you turn a hit the gas you kinda steet of the direction you want to go.
My HP's did just fine in the rain and snow. Problem was, they were down to tread indicators by 18K and Goodyear said there is NO warranty on them - I can see why. I replaced all 4 at 22K with 50K (warrantied) tires, $775 total.
That's odd. I've seen many people here say they have gotten up to as high as 55K miles out of these tires. I have them and like them. Haven't been in snow with them yet, but surely will this winter.
I live in SE Pennsylvania in back woods area and we got dumped on by snow last year. I had no problems at all with these tires, even driving through fields at a Christmas tree farm in 12" of fresh snow. I was almost down to the wear bars at 26k miles and just bought a set of Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenza's in hopes of getting more miles out of the next set of tires but would have put on another set to the HP's since tirerack has the OWL's for $146 each but the mileage was my only issue with them.

I don't understand this. I hear people wearing them down at 20k miles and some getting 60k miles. It does have to do with who's driving but really?? I drive mostly on curvy highway roads, usually pretty tough on tires but these have 40k now and they are in fine shape. I only rotate them every 7-10k miles, no allignment yet. There must be bad batches of these tires, either that or the people complaining about em do too many burnouts.

Hmmm....
Well I have been through two winters with my '09 and the tires have done just fine up here in the Boonies of NH. However my tires scalloped badly even with proper rotation and inflation. I still had some tread left and could have gone through the winter with them but I couldn't stand the vibration and noise the tires were making due to the scalloping. So yes I think there are different batches out there that were not good. I had around 28K on them.
Got the Michelin LTx MS2 tires and like them so far. Will wait to see how they do in snow. They say it is going to bad up here this year and bad in the mid-west.

Hope they do well, the LTX MS2 is the tire I plan to get next. When, well that is up to the Wrangler HPs.
