Unhappy RER radio and Ipod issues

I am experiencing the initializing comm. Issue with one iPod Nano ( 5th gen) and my RER radio from Hell ( I am on my third radio and I have a 2010 ram)
Here is the trouble shooting to date;

1) One IPod Nano 5th gen software 1.02 works, one IPod Nano 5th gen software 1.02 only shows “ Initializing comm, please wait” – two iPods because I do not like my wife’s music choices

2) Both have used the same version of ITunes

3) Just for the fun of it, I have reinstalled ITunes 9 as it handles files different tan version 10 and it still does not work

4) The bad unit I have restored so many times and it still does not work.

5) I have been patient, but I give up after 20 minutes of waiting for the initialization

6) I have deleted all but 12 songs on the bad unit in a hope that it is just a speed to initialize issue. Still does not work.

7) The bad IPod can be accessed from any computer successfully

8) I have called Apple and they say, if the computer works, then it is a Dodge issue. Dodge mechanic says if one IPod works then it is an Apple issue

9) MyGIG should be current for software, latest radio, IPod interface as well as cables were replaced on Sept 30th

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Don't know if this will help, but I have a problem with my nano also, but not exactly the same. I installed the uconnect myself with a REN radio. My problem is the connector to the nano works loose and the nano won't play. It is just sitting in the glove box loose. I just have to lightly touch it and it plays. When I plug the cable to the nano it feels like it locks in but I guess it doesn't. I do not get the message you get or any message, it just doesn't play. Check your plug(connection) at the nano. Maybe the one that works is better somehow.

Thanks wsnwill
I tried that, with no success, but with that thought in mind, I have just applied Stabulent 22 to the edge connector.

Stabilant 22 enhances conductivity without causing electrical leakage between adjacent contacts. Not cheap, but effective at $60 per 1/2 oz

I will test the result a little later today

I have the same message intermittently. I just unplug and then plug it back in and it works fine again. Most often happens after turning the truck off and then restarting it later without ever removing the iPod. If I leave the key in the acc. position it never gives that message though.
It's frustrating because I listen to alot of podcasts and when it loses communication it loses track of where you are in that podcast. Then you have to fast forward back to where you were. I could understand if it never worked right but not the intermittent aspect.

I have intermittent waiting for comm with my 5th also, my touch doesn't. If I unplug it and plug it back in it works again, but you have to go back to where you were, music etc. I have updated my RER with every update probably 5 and am running 1.02 on the Nano. Nothing fixes it.

I bought a 6th gen Nano, it works fine.

I have come to the conclusion it is a Apple software problem and they haven't done any updates to the 5th gen Nano FOREVER!

I'm not sure what to tell you how to get it fixed, I took my Nano to the local Apple store, they said everything checks out fine. I just bought the 6th gen because of this issue, I got sick of it.

That is what I was thinking, I will just have to suck it up and buy a new Ipod. Talking to Apple is useless, I just hate making apple more profit due to their screw up.

With the RER the new cable that is available allows any generation ipod to play but the REN radios you need an adapter to change the voltage the older ones are 12 v the newer are 5v so there are adapters available

I have problems with my 5th Gen 160g classic but it is normally after I have turned the truck off and back on without turning the ipod off. also sometimes it will take 2-3 minutes for it to start the next song. can be irritating.

In my case I have two Ipods ( same model ) one works other does not. The non working one just scrolls between screens when attached to the radio and does not show that it is charging. Apple says not their problem as it works with a computer. What gets more confusing is that I went to an electronics store today and this IPod plays in a docking station just fine.
So is it a MyGig issue or Apple issue, who knows, just a lot of finger pointing
