Default Moving to a smaller rim ----> Issues?

I have a 2009 Dodge Ram Sport CC 4x4. The current wheel setup is the stock 20" chrome clad rims and tires.

I'm interested in a winter wheel/tire package and was wondering if there are any problems in going down to a smaller rim 17" or 18"?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nope you'll have no problem as long as you go with 17" or above. I personally don't like a 20" wheel on a 4x4 myself, unless it's strictly a pavement queen, then you can get by with little side walls.

With an aluminum after-market wheel you'll save a good bit of weight, not to mention you'll save a bundle of $$ purchasing a 17" or 18" tire...

your speedo will not read correct unless you stay with the same overall height you started with

Thanks for the help - so no Brake Caliper issues size wise...?

I would have thought with a bigger rim, the brakes and calipers would have been larger.

I believe the calipers are the same as 3rd Gens, 17" is the minimum wheel to clear...

This is true, although some dealers will do it for less and I've even seen some do it for free (if the vehicle was originally purchased there).

There does seem to be a misunderstanding I've noticed with some guys though. A 33" tire has a 33" diameter (roughly) whether it's mounted on a 15", 17" or 20", etc. wheel.

You're speedo will only be noticeably off if you change TIRE diameter...

17" is one of the 2 stock sizes, they fit fine.
