How many miles are you guys getting out of your brake pads when you are running 35's?

Default How many miles are you guys getting out of your brake pads when you are running 35's?

Just checked my brake pads last night and I have slightly over 1/4 of inch left. I have 23K miles on my truck. I drive pretty conservative and baby my truck. How many miles do you expect to get out of your brake pads running 35's?

What does the size of the tire have to do with it? Thought it was pretty much in how you drive...

I would be more concerned about tie rod ends and other front end parts. Brakes will only have a bit more wear then normal. Use the transmission to slow yourself down rather then just relying on your brakes.

My wheels and tires are a lot heavier than the OEM 20's that come with the sport package. The weight is def. noticeable when breaking. It takes a lot more to slow the wheels down than before. The stock wheels I could pick up. My XD Series with 35's you need 2 people to load them into the truck bed.

Tire size plays a LOT into pad wear, almost as much as towing does.

I'm actually quite shocked that my original front pads have about 1/4 left at 48k miles. I have run 35" tires since '05 and although I don't tow a lot, when I do it's usually a 7700 lb. tractor.

At one time I was thinking PowerSlot rotors and Hawk pads when these were shot, but with the way the stockers have lasted, I may just get a set of Mopar pads to replace these...

I did not notice much difference in breaking from stock 20" tires to 35"s. mrainv23, Looked up the weight on your tires and they are about 9lbs heavier then the pro Comps I'm running. 71lbs on the 35 x 12.5 Procomp Xtreme tires and 80lbs on the 35 x 15.5 Nitto Trail Grapplers. wonder if the extra weight affects the breaking. I really did not notice much difference. That or I got used to it fast cause I love my truck

Bigger tires will wear down break components due to the rolling torque being greater, so the breaks struggle a little bit harder to stop the truck.

Interesting, larger wheels and tires, more brake pad wear. That's why I love this forum, learn something every day.
