Default Motor Oil throwing codes

A buddy of mine heard if you are not using the correct vicosity oil in his 2011 Hemi , they will throw engine codes . Any thing to this ?

Ya caught me. I've been runnin' 20w50 in your buddies HEMI. His warranty is toast....

No, not BS...! They can send out an oil sample, have it tested.
If it isnt what supposed to be in the engine, ther goes the warranty...!
Also with the MDS hemi, anything but 5w20, the MDS wont work properly.
Not that anyone here gives a ratsazz about mds for all the issues people **** and moan about with it.

Myself, i would at least go by what the manufactuer recommends until the warranty expires, its your choice, do what you want.

As long as the check engine light does not come on , he's good to go .

5W-20 is VERY IMPORTANT in the 2011's. And change it according to MFRS recommendation, or when the truck tells you to.

5W-20 is important to every 5.7L Hemi engine with MDS that Chrysler has produced (at least as early as the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee where I first was exposed to MDS). If you don't have 5W-20 your engine may not enable MDS.

I realize that I'm just an idiot that doesn't understand a lot of these things, but what would be the point of using an oil viscosity other than what Chrysler recommends? Is there any real advantage worth risking your warranty, and/or F'ing up your engine?
