Default Oil Change Intervals

Hi Guys. New to the 4th Gens. I recently traded in my 06 1500 Laramie QC 4X4 Hemi on a 2011 1500 Laramie QC 4X4 Hemi. I love this thing.

Anyway, I was browsing through the maint. schedule and notice it says to change the oil every 8,000 miles. Is this right? Do you guys trust this? I was running synthetic oil in my 06 and still didn't let it go that far before a change. Am I just missing something?

My 2010 manual says 6000 miles for normal driving. While I'm still in warranty I'm sticking close to that, even though I am running Mobil1. After 36K I'll be pushing closer to 8000 miles unless I have a long trip towing a trailer. From various studies I've read the oil itself holds up fine over longer intervals as long as it stays clean. This might mean a filter change somewhere in the middle, but if I did that I'd probably push 10K then.

8,000 miles, or 6 months is fine! Honest - no reason to waste precious natural resources. Modern oils are amazing at what they do!

I've got a 2010 Crewcab and the computer displays when its time to change the oil. First time was about 4,000km then about 10,000km. Mind you this is the regular mineral oil, not synthetic. Personally, I wouldn't trust going 6,000 miles. Kilometers sure, miles no way.

Just a question ----- is it possible you forgot to reset the computer, when you short changed the oil last time?

Is it possible???

I've sure done lots more stupid stuff than that!

not unless the dealer forgot to (course it was not on when I had the oil changed I just wanted it changed cuase I knew I was coming on this trip and would need it before I got back). Which is why I just reset it and ignored it.
