I removed the one on my old ramcharger. Had to remove the wheel well cover to get to it. It was a pain because the wire was hardwired to the base of the antena mount so I had to disconect it from the radio and fish the wire out from under the dash and through the door opening and out of the truck. Didn't matter though, I was installing a power antena in it's place. Now that was sharp on that ramcharger but it had flat top fenders so was easy to get the base nice and square to the truck. Take a flat screw driver and put the head in one of the notches on the chrome nut and tap the end with a hammer...gently...counter clockwise. The nut will unscrew and the black plastic piece will come off. Be careful to hold on to the antenna cable or it will fall into the fender well.

Will the nut fit over the actual whip on the antenna because if so you can hang on to that and it should hold the antenna base where it belongs.
