Default 2009 2500 HP and TQ Power 355 or 383?????

I am wanting to know the HP and TQ ratings from a 2009 2500 with a hemi. I have looked up and down, and have found two ratings.

355 hp
395 tq

and

383 hp
400 tq

Which is it?????????????????????

I have the VIN of the truck if there was a way to look it up by that. I am looking at a 2009 2500 mega cab.

Dodge officially lists HP at 355 @ 5400 rpm and Torque at 395 @ 4200 rpm for 2500/3500s and 2500 Megas.

A couple of 2500 dyno runs I've seen put the HP numbers in the upper 260s and torque in the mid 280s at the rear wheels on bone stock trucks which is really where you need to look for comparison purposes. It doesn't matter what any engine makes at the crank, only what gets to the wheels is useable to you...

Wow coming from a 2008 with a 6.7 cummins that might be hard to stomach.

With the raising price of diesel, and the fact that the new 6.7 just cost a ton more to maintain I was thinking about switching to this 2009 mega cab. I had a dealer call me and wanted my truck plus $2,000 for the mega cab. My 2008 is an SXT quad cab long box. This thing is a 2009 mega cab laramie fully load with brand new tires.

I have my truck fully deleted with a H&S XRT programmer because of all the issues I had with the EPA junk on the truck. Of course now my warranty will be no good if I have any issues. This mega cab comes with a 8 year 80K mile warranty because it is a certified pre-owned dodge.

What do you think? I have never owned a 5.7 hemi only 3 5.9 cummins, this 6.7 cummins, and a 5.9 gas dodge (it was a Dog to say the least). I pull about 8K lbs 10 times a year or so. That is another reason why I did not think I needed a diesel anymore.

Been in a few 3rd Gen MegaCab gassers but not a 4th Gen. IMO the thing is too heavy to be offered with a gasser. A lot of 3rd Gen folks with them agree.

I almost pulled the trigger on a new '07 QC 2500, one of the last 5.9 CTDs on any dealer lots. But I had just finished doing all the mods to my Hemi 1500 and although the trade allowance was good, I'da still lost my a$$ on about $13k in mods.
Not a big fan of the 6.7 yet, everyone I know with one had CEL issues to this day - ALWAYS emissions related.

If you're used to a diesel, you won't be happy in a Mega gasser, you might could live with a Hemi in a QC though.

Ya that is my worry. I really wish I never would have gotten rid of my 2004.5 cummins 2500 for this 6.7.

I had to spend about $1,200 to get rid of my emissions issues, and then I had to spend another $1,500 to upgrade my clutch and flywheel because they use a DMF now! That and they switched to a G56 6 speed manual from the NV5600. The G56 is complete junk compared to the NV5600.

Sorry I could go on and on about my 6.7 and how disappointed I am with it. I might take a little less power for some piece of mind know I have a warranty and a proven motor.

Do you know how bad the mpg might be on this truck?

Thanks for all you help so far.

The 1500's have the more powerful motor and the 2500's have the less powerful one due to different tuning.

That's just peak power though and that's not what matters. It's what is under the curve. The 2500's are tuned for more torque and the 1500's are tuned for better horsepower.

It's the #1 gripe with the 3rd Gen Mega owners by far. I just did a search in the 3rd Gen section for a couple of key words like MEGA, GAS, Fuel Economy, etc. and it appears the norm is about 10-11 mpg in combo city/highway driving. Some a little better, some a little worse. One thread lists 5-7 when towing a 5000# load.

Do a search, many threads will come up. Read to your hearts content.

Now I only have a QC 1500 Hemi 4x4 but I have this pig weighing Mega Cab weight with my lift, tires, winch, etc. and I don't do a hell of a lot better. I might see 13 in combo driving and can maybe nip 16 on trips that are strictly highway driving IF I keep it under 70...

I wonder with the 4th gen improvements like VVT and such if the mpg is a little better. It looks like the 2009 2500 hemi does not have the increase compression ratio, but got all the other improvements in 2009. In 2010 you get the 10 + compression ratio.

I will keep searching to see if I can find anymore info on it.

Thanks for you help.

Isn't the 2009 2500 still a third gen truck? I thought the 2010 and up 2500 & 3500 were the 4th gen HD's.

My 2010 2500 4x4 Hemi gets 13-15 city and 16.5-19 hwy depending on speed. Pulling my 8000 pound TT I get 12-13 @60 and 8-10 in the hills with steep grades. It pulls great but not like a diesel and cost me less to operate then my 08 6.7. Strange thing is my 2500 gets better MPG than my 09 1500 with mds. I still own a 07 mega Hemi 4x4 and that pig is 14 tops on the hwy and 10-12 in the city.
