Sure. You realize that there is also a key in your fob right?

 

The key in the fob does not operate the tailgate lock, I tried.

The one in the fob works mine too, I don't even have the others that the dealership gave me on my key-ring.

 

You could install a power lock kit in the tailgate. Then never worry about the key again. They're pretty inexpensive and not that hard to install.

My fob key works in my tailgate too. I would guess that the dealer (or previous owner if you bought it used) installed a locking tailgate

 

you might pull a build sheet if you are not the original owner. check to see if locking tailgate was OEM equipment. if so they need to re-key it for you.
also, yes a locksmith can duplicate a key for you on the door/tailgate keys.
