Default Lack of Power recepticles?? Mods?

Hey everyone,

Just picked up my 2011 1500 CC today and LOVE it!

But something that is immediately annoying to me is the lack of power recepticles (round socket type/cigarette lighter)

So far I've only found 3: 1 next to the gear shift, 1 inside the center console, and 1 servicing the backseat.

It wouldn't be a huge problem except that I have a radar detector and the cord is going right down the middle of my radio! Any ideas or fixes or mods? I'd prefer not to move my radar detector b/c I works really well middle and high on the windshield. Also, I'd prefer not to hardwire it in due to the fact that I move it in between vehicles.

Thanks!

Grats on the new truck.

Not sure what you are complaining about here, only 3 recepticles or the power cable having to lay in front of your radio. Just about every vehicle I know of has the 12V plug in, in or near the center of the dash along with the radio. I am sure you can drape it around the mirror to be out of the way of the radio

Short of having one top center in the dash run a power source up to the rear view mirror and wire in some connecters or have someone do it for you. It is not to difficult to do.

If you have a Hemi I know how difficult it can be to keep your foot from running hard on the gas pedal, but you'll only arrive a few minutes later with a lighter touch and save gas too.

In my 04 1500 QC there was a receptical where the 2011 ignition is. Was nice because the cord wasn't in the way at all.

HAH! I would drive fast if I had a Prius. It's not that I speed but going 80 on a Texas highway where the speed limit is 70 and you're the only one out there is not uncommon.

Besides, with this new Fuel economy screen I found myself being extremely conservative! Amazing how that little screen with less than 10mpg will make your foot come up so fast! haha

Yeah...Go the the Blendmount website. Get a Blend mount. It gets the detector up under the mirror and less police notice. Gets it off the windshield improving vision. Plus, they sell a mini radar power cord that hooks into your mirror harness. If you have the auto dim mirror that is.

If you had gotten the bench seat the outlets would have been in more usable places

freq, what kind of radar detector do you have?

I know you stated you didn't want to hardwire it but I'm going to order a Passport 9500ix in the next couple weeks (maybe even in the next few days) and the hardwire kit is only $30. Buying one for the truck and then keeping your regular "cig lighter cord" for the other car seems pretty reasonable to me.

This looks like it will work perfect! Thanks RAM! Did you install this same type of wire? Does it just plug into the mirror or something?

Passport Escort 9500ix - AND IT'S AMAZING!!! 1.5Mile+ detection on highway.. great in the city also! Don't really use the redlight feature (not one to run them) but the speedtrap thing is cool.

I looked at the direct wire cord they offered on their website and it's super long! Check out the one that Ramulak suggested if you have a powered mirror. Will be looking at mine in the day light tomorrow to see if it will work out!

I bought mine from a guy here in Dallas from craigslist. Brand new in the box. But the thing about him is that he's a distributor for them (and the various other brands that they carry). Sold the 9500ix to me for $420! He gave me a discount on my second one that I bought for my Dad's fathers day gift. Also, wherever you buy it, make sure to get the Supercup attachment. So much more stable and I found the smaller suction cups crappy and the angle of the radar wasn't exactly straight. I'll take a picture of the detector mounted with the super cup tomorrow but unfortunately I threw the crappy ones away so I can't take a picture of those.

Will update the thread soon.

you can always make or purchase a custom harness that hooks into your mirror and draws power from your reading light circuit.

Any idea if it just plugs into the free spots behind the mirror?

Sorry. been away. Yes the pins plug into the harness. But you have a different mirror. I only have the auto dim. not the camera mirror.
If need be it isn't that hard to pull some wire insulation back and solder them together. You sound capable so it is a no brainer for you.
In a lot of localities these days they are watching or even outlawing items stuck to the windshield so the blendmount and cable is a good idea no matter what.
