Default 2010 Dodge Ram, Transmission

I had an odd thing happen to me this weekend with my Dodge 1500 Laramie. I was driving it up on my ramps to change the oil and when I nearly reached the top of the ramps it was like the transmission kicked out of gear. The brake pedal stiffened and it would not continue even though it was still in drive.....can anyone offer any words of advice?

I am not sure but I turned off the stability control and was able to drive up on the ramps without a problem. Is that the same thing your referring to when you say Hill Assist?

No hill assist is different . That is when you are pointing up hill and you push the button, the trucks brakes will hold you from rolling backwards as you start up. Just thught maybe the hill assist was the deal you had with the brakes tightening up.

Our trucks have hill assist? Where is the button...

Or to rephrase... IIRC hill assist has always been an automatic system for manual cars where it holds you in place when you are taking your foot off the brake and putting it on the gas. It is for people who do not know how to use a clutch.

Now they also have hill decent which locks up your brakes to keep you at a constant speed on a downhill...

Sounds like hill assist. Hill assist is part of ESP and is turned off when ESP is pushed off. At least on my 09 it works that way.

You have to scroll through the menu in setup. It's under Hill Assist, i always had mine turned off because i didnt even know what it did or never thought it worked anyways. I'll turn mine on again and see if i can get it to work.

in the 2010 ram if you have it turned on, it will hold your position if you're on an incline for about 1 to 1.5 seconds before you can feel it release the piston completely. I'm sure it's really designed for use when a heavy trailer is being pulled and you're on a steep incline at a stop light and you are a person who can't or won't two foot the pedals.

Wade,

I agree with KKDS, it sounds like the hill start assist kicked in. Perhaps you let off gas just a little when reaching top of ramp and it was trying to prevent you from rolling backwards.
