Default Economy mode resulting in higher GPH use?

I have a ScanguageII hooked up to my truck right now and I have the GPH (gallons per hour) as one of the readouts. I was experimenting today on the drive home and, I think I found out something. With the cruise set at 50 mph and, on a flat straight road (no wind) the guage told me that I was using just over 1 GPH more then with economy mode on then with it off and the truck in 5th (cruise on set to 50 still.)

I only got to experiment a little because I only really noticed it on the last mile of my trip. I think I'm going to do some more experimenting and, writing down the results as I go. I did a little more on some very small stretches of my route but the results seemed to be the same very time.

With those figures,
i`d have to say you are getting the average MPG vs MPH that these hemi`s get.
Now quit playing with toys while you`re driving and just drive..!!! (heheheheeee)

PS..... and dont put alot of faith into the EVIC numbers, it lie`s alot.

X2, I started doing hand calculations and realized I'm getting better than the EVIC...I don't trust any computer system...

same here, kindda, today while pulling 12 X 6 Vnose enclosed trailer into the wind 10MPH at ~45* angle my dash was reading 8.5 MPG average.
but when i topped off , i had burned 13.5 gallons in 130 miles.
i thought this was awesome, i was about to trade the truck in against a 3/4 ton.
glad i did this manually B4 i did this.
i should add this is a 2010 ram 1500 with a 4" lift with 35" X 9" tires .

Dude that's not bad w/ a lift and 35" tires...How much was in the trailer you were pulling and was it mostly highway?

I read somewhere that the scan guage doesn't work on MDS equipped vehicles. Better check their website.!

I was thinking that thought today on the way home while monitoring the GPH use. When the economy mode kicks in, the Scangauge isn't quite sure what to make of it. This is especially true when coasting. The MPG reads 9999 and the GPH reads all 0. I'm wondering if the GPH reading is messed up from only some of the cylinders running so the interpretation is wrong in the Scangauge.

two dirt bikes and it was 98% HWY.
about half was rolling hills,NOT steep at all or long.
held it at app 65mph indicated on the cruise, i assume thats off a tad from the slightly taller tires (didnt have a GPS to check the real speed).did not have to make any passing either, which would have that MPG in the trash if i had.

on the way back, i did have to make a couple of passes and the RPM's went through the roof...
over all im pleased since this is NOT the truck i normally tow with.
just wanted to see if the rumors were true before i ditched it.
i'm keeping it now
