Tapping at start up
I have a 2009 Ram with the Hemi and when I start it up in the morning and when I leave from work it sounds like my lifters are tapping very loud for about 5 seconds and then goes away. I had it to the dealer twice and they keep telling me they can't duplicate it. They also did the manifold bolts under a recall but that didn't fix the tapping at start up. Anyone have any ideas. O this is pretty crazy but I only have 2697 miles on my truck. Yes you read it right.

They likely can not duplicate as they are not letting it sit long enough. And of course after it happens after sitting long enough it would need to sit again before they can get it to happen again.
Also make sure you had the exhaust manifold bolt RRT work done.

Did you change oil and filter? Some filters allow to much bleed back. I was using Wix filters. Suppose to be of high quality. Every one I used I got lifter noise in the A.M. Factory filter all was quiet and also with PureOne filters.

I will also say I talked to Amsoil tech line. They wanted a Wix filter returned to check it out. I never got around too dong so. My bad. But they were surprised that any bleed back would occur as the filter on the Hemi is totally upside down. Appears impossible to bleed back. I understand the the mechanics of it but none the less it does happen.
Krony506, I had the same problem. My truck is also an 09 with only 14k on it. The dealership replaced manifold bolts 7 and 8 but now makes much more noise and the dealership is now saying they can not duplicate my ticking now even though everyone that has seen my truck can hear it at start up even with it only cooling for a few minutes. Also I have used mopar and purolator filters with no difference. Please post if you get any good answers or fixes.

Did they change all the bolts or just the broken ones? If if was just the broken ones then you should take your truck back up there because your going to have the ones they did not replace broken. That could be the possibility, which it happened to me. This has been done twice on my truck already. This time they replaced all my exhaust manifold studs on both banks and had to replace my burnt out gaskets. If the noise is on a cold start and eventually goes away due to the swelling of the bolts its going to be manifold exhaust bolts most likely. Tell them to spray the engine down with a hose and let it sit for a hour. Your not going to get the duplicate noise on a warm start up.
