Mds growl noise update !
I just took my truck to a different dealer. I got a technician that knew his stuff. He said our problem is the muffler and exhaust system. Its not the torque converter. He said when the mds is on it changes the harmonics through the muffler. He is goin to replace the muffler, but said i will always hear a little bit. Said there is no 100% fix. Atleast i know i can use my superchip and go about my business knowing its not the transmission or something expensive.
Also, i have a reg cab and he said this problem is way worse on reg cabs. Said most his complaints are from reg cab owners. Thats why alot of dealers havent got complaints because they mostly sell crew cabs.

Why not disable MDS with the superchips tuner. 100x more responsive and barely a noticeable diff in fuel mileage. Definately feel the performance hit going back to stock and having MDS enabled. Also, it felt like the truck would 'jump' out of MDS mode with the 93 octane tune. Maybe its also because of the 3.92 gears, this thing just wants to go..

Oh, and by the way, changing the muffler isnt going to fix it either, especially if they just replace it with the exact same muffler that you already have on the truck. Been there, done that, waste of time. It MIGHT change the frequency slightly, just enough to change what its doing, but i garantee it wont stop the problem entirely. The problem is the hemi engine and the SHIDDY torque convertor, and the MDS programming. With the combination of the 3 items, you`ll always have the problem. So your smart tech is shooting in the dark with you. He`s gonna just keep bolting stuff on your truck until he cant do anything more with it, then he`ll tell you that you`ll just have to live with it until chrysler takes care of it. (which will never happen)
When your smart tech gets done wasting your time, have him order the "StarCase" torque convertor. I can post the info in here if you like.
People that have had it done say it solves the problem. I`m getting mine done as soon as i find a stealership thats capable of doing the job right.
Let us know how you make out with that muffler change..!
GOOD LUCK...!

I had the same truck, they did tons of things to it including exhaust kits with HUGE rubber isolators that they bolted all over the exhaust system, nothing fixed the exhaust rattle and heavy drone effect while running in low rpm`s. No matter what they tried, nothing worked. I finally got fed up with it after 6 months and sold the truck. And yes, you are correct, the regular cab trucks are VERY prone to this very issue, especially the hemi model with single exhaust. (the trucks with factory duals dont have as much of this problem) These trucks have MANY undesierable rattles and vibrations because of mostly the hemi engine. When the hemi is running at very low rpm`s, AND in MDS mode too, it just shakes everything and transmits it throughout the entire truck. Imagine driving a stick shift vehicle at 20mph, in 5th gear, same effect. Until they do something about the hemi`s low rpm frequency issue and the junk torque convertors, and as well as that poor excuse item called MDS, these trucks will ALWAYS rattle and vibrate.

Lu229, your probly right. This is the first tech that knew what i was talking about. He did say the muffler is probly going to be an updated muffler because of changes chrysler will make do to these issues. He said it might be a while until they have a 100% fix, but this should help alot.
I agree, if i would have known the mds is this big of problem, i would have bought a tundra. Atleast we will know what to buy in 2014 when the new tundra and silverados are out.

It's not strictly the fault of MDS though. I owned a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an almost identical 5.7L Hemi that had MDS. There was never this type of issue on that vehicle. Obviously the vehicle dynamics and construction play a part in the problem.

I think chevy is gonna get my money next time around. (unless dodge steps up, but i highly dought it)
I wont EVEN look at a ford. Only thing worse than a dodge, is a FORD..!
Toyota`s are ok, but i live in a heavily road salted area during winter time, owned MANY toyota`s, bodys and frames fell apart from rusting out.
And when they started rusting, it was already way to late by that point. So i quit buying toyota`s because they rotted out way to fast.

i totally agree, these 4th gen trucks have alot more going on than the old 05 hemi`s did.
Concider variable valve timing, variable intake manifold, 2 different types of lock-up process`s with the torque convertors....etc etc etc, and THEN throw in all the programming on top of it, BAMMMM, headache`s...!!!! Its no wonder ther are so many things going wrong and causing problems, hundred things going on all at the same time. So concider alotta problems when so much more is put into the loop...goes without saying. Also throw in the fact that, all parts are now smaller, lighter, cheaper too. Then attach all this to a paper thin body, vibes and rattles are just trying to find a place to go die.
Ya know guys, maybe sometimes "less is more" is for a good reason.
We have come to the point in technology we cant stay within much longer, somethins gotta give sooner or later. We cant keep trying to re-invent the wheel. Afterall, how much more round can you possibly make the wheel. These vehicles have way more going on than they need to... do you know why...????... i do... its called stayin in the game of greed... whos got the greatest and the best. I`m at a point in life, where i really dont give a rats azz how great or how pretty or how expensive something is anymore, will it do the fuggin job, WITHOUT big problems everyday...?
Less, IS more...! Life is much easier with less. (less problems...!)
congrads my friend, you`re probably one of the luckiest 4th gen owners NOT to have ended up with the issues that other people describe on the forums with these 4th gen trucks. Believe what ever you want buddie, but until you`ve read all the complaints on ALL the dodge truck forums nationwide, you`ll never have any idea how bad some of these trucks REALLY are. You should go drive one that has these very problems, then you can justifie what you`re saying, i gaurantee you`l think different after driving one with issues that these guys complain about. It ISNT just exhaust sounds my friend, these trucks also vibrate up thru the steering colums and gas pedals, and the seats. I have a friend of mine that JUST bought a brand new 2011 CC hemi 4x4, i drove it last week, and holy crap, i would get 5 gallons of gas and torch it, collect the insurance, and then go buy a chevy. The whole truck just vibrates sooooo badly from the MDS, torque convertor issues. Feels like your whole body is sittin in a bee`s nest, just buzzin like crazy...!!!! He paid $40,000+ for his truck and has THESE kinds of issues...??? He is quite upset about buying a truck with issues like this and i toally understand why he`s so disappointed, especially after spending THAT kind of money. I cant blame people on here to be very upset by it. I back these guys up 200% on here when they complain about it...!!!! Mine vibes and rattles a little bit, but NOTHING like my friends brand spankin new 2011 CC does.
Anyhow... i`m glad you`re not having the issues that alot of others are having, i hope it holds up good for you.
I agree with some, not ALL these trucks are doing it, but the ones that are,
DODGE NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THEM RIGHT, and FOR FREE..!!!!!
