Default Throtle body spacer?

Anyone know anything about a good throtle body spacer and how true these add 22hp claims i saw on a Taylor Power Tower and Spacer from Auto Anything are? For 22hp, 25lb-ft and up to 4mpg $104 is a hell of a deal.

TB spacers are just a paper weight, they work with carb'd engines but thats about it.

if Mopar could increase up hp by 22 by moving their throttle body 1 inch then the intake manifold would be one inch longer, as doing that mod would cost them about $.05 per vehicle.

Throttle body spacers are useless on a modern, fuel injected design. I don't necessarily agree on the CAI thing though. Yeah, they don't do much by themselves, but when combined with certain other mods, they start to come into play. For example, you'll get more gains with a ported throttle body and/or heads when combined with a CAI than with a stock intake...

I could use some other examples of such combined mods to boost hp and mpgs.

Are there any relatively low cost mods i can do to improve hp or mileage? I plan on going bigger on tires soon and some lift in the next year and this will kill some mileage i know so im trying to help it all i can and im not willing to do big engine work on my new truck just yet.

Well for $330 i got the superchips cortex tuner claiming somewhere up to 40hp and 40tq. I am not sure if i get that much, but i am also not at the highest setting, but i will guarantee you will feel the EXTRA HEMI power with no mpgs lost, plus you get to change wheel diamater and torque, rpm, shift points etc. wich you will need when you change your wheelsntires for proper odometer reading. The toneua cover is debatable, but i never noticed what it did for me untill i drove without it, handles so much better, i did the cai, simple filter swap with stock plumbing with one i had in the garage and i do feel a bit better acceleration.
Considering
Magnaflow Exhaust
Gear swap

hope this was helpfull i too would like to know about other mods under $500 i can do

Chasing MPG is a suckers game. The number of miles you have to drive to make up the 300 you spend on a CAI that inmproves your gas mileage by .5 mpg is ridiculous. Same for a cortex or anything else.

If you are looking for improved HP the scenario is simple: increase airflow... to do that you need CAI headers, cat back.

If you want to go further then you go for ported and polished intake, TB and heads.

If you do that your airflow values will be out of spec for your computer, so you will have to tune that. This also allows you to add more fuel and advance, which allows you to take advantage of higher octane fuel.

Once you want to go further than that, we are talking about cams or forced induction. Which will also require more tuning.

Well, as soon as you talk Lift/Larger Tires, you can forget about fuel economy. Many HP booster type mods will slightly increase fuel economy by virtue of having to use less throttle (gas pedal) to achieve the same results - however YOU HAVE TO STAY OFF THE GAS, a feat I have yet to master. Give me more power - I want to use it!

IMO the better of the mods to achieve more horsepower or better performance are Tuner, E-Fan and re-gearing.

A lot of people are disappointed when they get a tuner, they expect a $300 tuner to do the same thing that ported TB, Heads and blowers will do but NO $300 upgrade is gonna do what a $3000 one will do! However, if looking at it from a gains vs. dollars spent view point, they tend to be one of your better mods.

An e-fan gets the parasitic clutch fan out of the picture, on some engines you can free up as much as 25 HP, although dyno results on a Hemi puts it in the 14-16 RWHP range. This is also one of your better MPG mods ESPECIALLY in city driving where the clutch fan is draining engine HP the worst (and where it's operating at it's least efficiency).

Re-gearing, especially with larger diameter tires is essential in keeping your EFFECTIVE GEAR RATIO in the proper range. I find that in our heavy trucks (4x4, QC), with essentially TWO overdrive gears, you want your effective gear ratio to be between 3.9 - 4.10:1 to balance power with fuel economy. Put you some 35" tires on a truck that has 3.55 stock gears and your effective ratio goes to a paltry 3.25:1...
