Could be the sending unit. Did the mechanic check the oil preasure while you were there for service anyways? If its a bad oil pump, that could be catastrophic "soon" if you're still currently operating/driving your truck!

+1 on that. I'm surprised you got a check engine light on low oil pressure instead of the low oil pressure warning light illuminating or your oil pressure gauge not showing low pressure.

That's why I'm thinking it maybe a faulty sending unit, which can still allow somewhat oil preasure. I still would NOT be operating your truck until 100% certain!

Helmster,

I agree with the other posters in that you need to find the cause ASAP. Hopefully it is just the sending unit but if the oil pressure is indeed low then permanent damage to your engine can happen quickly.

Still now word on what it is, but the oil pressure was around 29 at idle and 45-50 while driving on the freeway... hoping its nothing serious. I will let everyone know once its diagnosed this am.

Those numbers sound good. Hopefully just a little data glitch.

Huh, my 5.7 runs around 60-65 PSI, my '07 did too. I know the LX models run around 48-50 PSI.

Normal PSI is 10-60 PSI depending upon RPM and Temperature.
