Nerf bar help and or suggestions
I just purchased a 2012 ram big horn quad cab 3 months ago. Looking to buy after market nerf bars for it, thinking about Lund 5" oval bars but not a definite yet. If anyone has any suggestions on certain brands that are good or bad please let me know. I will probably be buying over the Internet so any help would be appreciated . Also any pictures to help me decide, Thanks
I have DEE ZEE 5" ovals. Love them. They sit a little lower on the truck so when you use them you are not hitting your foot under the door. I have the Chromed aluminum version. Look at my pics.
I don't have any recent pics of my truck but I bought a set of Nasta bars for mine for $100 (new!) this spring. They are Stainless Steel, not Chromed, so you won't end up replacing them in 2-5 years due to rust.
Oops.. I strolled into the 4th Gen.. regardless... still applies..

I went with the Mopars (cab length) for no other reason than the step treads match the pattern in the bumper and door sills. They are very sturdy and easy to install. I can throw a picture up for you if haven't seen them.
Watch out for how your bars attach to the truck !!
I have (had) the '09 Mopar Full-Length ones. They attach by Crush-Nuts thru the 3-pairs of stock holes on the inside vertical bottom of the Cab bodyworks. This is a single-thickness sheet steel with NO Reinforcement (no double-layer folded or spot-welded behind it). Needless to say, eventually the crush-nuts started to tear thru the sheetsteel.
I don't know if Dodge or Mopar fixed this FAIL in later model-years. I hope so.
Some 3rd-party bars include a small backing plate with nuts welded to it, which slips through a shaped hole Dodge left seemingly Just-for-that-Purpose. (But Mopar doesn't do so themselves !!)
So be wary !!

Its not the RivNuts/CrushNuts... Its the un-reinforced body sheetmetal that they are fastened thru... That metal tears after a while, unless it is reinforced. Some 3rd-party Steps provide a Backing Plate, but Mopar does NOT...
