Has anyone with a Ram that falls within the recall window checked on line with Dodge/Ram to see if their truck comes up using the vin for the recall? Or have you checked with a dealer to see if it pulls up on their computers?

Mine is one of the early 09 build. Without going outside and looking at the plate I think mine falls within the time frame.

Heard on the news that it may be Nov before Dodge contacts the owners.

edit. I remembered mine was built in october, turns out it was 08 rather than 09. So mine does not meet the timeframe.

Mines a March '09 build, looking at the door sticker. Doesn't appear I'm included in this recall, unless the VIN# plays a roll toward manufactured parts assembled during that time frame.

I've got one of the first/very early '09's. I'm afraid to let any dealership touch my truck....It is running and driving great and don't want them to ruin that....LOL.

How do you find out what month it was built?

BTW, I've asked a couple of posters who've had the pinion nut issue (resulting in catastrophic failure) when their build date was, and MumboJumbo22 replied back that his was in 9/08 - not covered under this recall...

Anyways, yeah this happened to my truck and I was going about 45 mph. Luckily I was able to pull over safely and get out of the way. Rear was completely locked up and the pinion bolt came lose and also broke the drive shaft. Would have been between 4-5k to fix but the dealer covered it. I have the 2009 RAM 1500 Crew Cab 2wd.

I also submitted a complaint to NHTSA this morning. You definitely don't want this happened driving on the highway at 70mph. Here is a link to the investigation:

What do people like myself do - my build date is 10/08 - if their trucks aren't covered under the recall? It's a ticking timebomb knowing that others who aren't covered under recall have had, not only gear whine, but actual catastrohpic failure AND reported to NHTSA about it.
Unless the recall broadens - are folks like me stuck footing the bill for this "preventive maintenance"?

My build is 12/08 and I have already had the pinion seal go, then a couple months later, pinion and carrier bearings needed replaced because it was whining so loud.
