Default UConnect Add Ons

Is it possible and if so what does a dealer charge to add back-up camera and/or Navigation to the Uconnect 8.4A? Its a 2013 Ram and the brochure says those items are dealer additions.

Thanks!

Have you called the dealer's service & parts dept to ask this question?

Big,

If you have an RA3 radio the navigation can be added at this time. As far as the backup camera goes, that is not yet available to be added. The suggested retail price to add the NAV is $595.

The service department would be the one to handle the NAV addition as they will flash the RA3 radio to update it include the NAV function. See TSB below that is informational for the dealers regarding this issue.

SUBJECT:
How To Activate The Navigation Maps On A RA3 Radio
MODELS:
2013 (DS) Ram 1500 Pickup
NOTE: This Service Bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a UCONNECT 8.4A
AM/FM/BT/ACCESS (sales code RA3).
CAUTION: The only vehicles that can be upgraded to include a navigation system
are ones that have an RA3 radio.
DISCUSSION:
Offering a radio that has navigation capability that can be optionally activated for additional
cost is something new. This allows all Uconnect 8.4A (sales code RA3) customers to enjoy
the benefits of the high line 8.4 inch screen at a low entry level price. Only the customers
that wish to activate the navigation feature will pay the extra fee.
CAUTION: The customer needs to be notified, and clearly understand once this
system is activated it can NOT be deactivated and this feature can NOT
be transferred to another vehicle. When the feature is activated it's
“non-refundable, irreversible, and permanently attached to the VEHICLE
(not the customer) for the life of the vehicle.”

Ok thanks, I will check with the service department. I am a little dissapointed that they don't have the backup camera available though. The brochure said it could be added by the dealer and I would have bought a different truck if I knew that it couldn't be added.

I, for one, think this is complete BS and a total money grab by Ram. Like other users on this forum and others, when I bought my 2013 RAM back in November, multiple dealers were telling me they weren't sure or how much it would cost to add the Nav to the RA3 8.4A radio. Now that I've had the truck for a little over a month I find out it's $600. Had I known that at the time, I would have negotiated that into the cost of the truck. I've been on the phone multiple times with my dealer, other dealers, and Ram Customer Service and no one is willing to help. As an early adopter, and someone that buys new vehicles once every few years (I put a lot of miles on being a contractor), I have asked Chrysler to help me out on this. I've bought three (3) $40k plus Ram 1500's since 2010 and they won't help me one bit over $600. My 2013 will be my last RAM. Obviously upset that Chrysler / RAM won't help out a dissatisfied customer.

Bdkramer,

I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction on this issue but I am not sure exactly what you are stating here. Are you indicating that the Navigation should be added to your unit at no cost? The RA4 radio which includes the NAV, is a $500 option and was available as well as 2 other radio options. Chrysler, the dealer, or customer service is not going to add the navigation to the radio for less than what it will cost others that ordered it that way from the factory had to pay for navigation.

I can understand them charging to add it, but what makes me angry is when you ask the salesman a specific question when purchasing the vehilce and they blow you off and make it seem like it is no big deal to add it. Then you go back and they tell you it cant be done or will cost you big $$. I will never buy another vehicle that doesnt have all the options I want already there as I am driving it off the lot. Tired of the lies.

This is my point exactly. It's partially my fault for buying the vehicle without the answer I was looking for. But what I'm unhappy about is what biggiantshane says above. My question was blown off and they acted like it was no big deal. $700 is a big deal. Never again will I buy a truck until all my questions are answered.

I agree with you 100%. I got my 2013 Laramie 1500 almost 3 months ago. When I was on the lot, I was more worried about performance, confort and how the truck handled. talking with the salesperson, I totally overlooked the navigation option assuming it was included until I was walking in to the finance office to sign the paperwork. And of course when I asked, the answer I got was, it can be added on and that they can take care of it. When I asked how much extra it would cost, they actually could not provide a price for me. The truck and options were too new for the dealer to have all the information. I was unable to get a price for the navigation option for a full week from the original dealer, even after talking with the service dept. manager. I ended up contacting another dodge dealership 2 weeks after my purchase and they quoted me $550 for the navigation. I was pretty pissed that after spending $42k they still wanted to scam me out of another $550. I'm happy with the truck but I am totally turned off by the buying experience and the fact that Dodge tries to nickle and dime you even after spending all that money on a new truck.
