OK I have a '12 Express with the nearly useless DIC display but this morning my low tire pressure warning came on. I stopped for gas and checked my pressures. Got 35PSI on 3 tires and 30PSI on the 4th sure I added air so all 4 now have 35PSI which is what my door jam stickers says they should be at.

The warning light is still on? Does it go out when the pressure is corrected or do I have to somehow reset it?

Might it be a bad sensor? Not sure how low the pressure has to drop to set off a warning.

Ideas??

TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM (TPMS)


The Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) will warn the driver of a low tire pressure based on the vehicle recommended cold placard pressure.

The tire pressure will vary with temperature by about 1 psi (6.9 kPa) for every 12°F (6.5°C). This means that when the outside temperature decreases, the tire pressure will decrease. Tire pressure should always be set based on cold inflation tire pressure. This is defined as the tire pressure after the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours, or driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km) after a three hour period. The cold tire inflation pressure must not exceed the maximum inflation pressure molded into the tire sidewall. Refer to “Tires – General Information” in “Starting and Operating” for information on how to properly inflate the vehicle’s tires. The tire pressure will also increase as the vehicle is driven - this is normal and there should be no adjustment for this increased pressure.

The TPMS will warn the driver of a low tire pressure if the tire pressure falls below the low-pressure warning limit for any reason, including low temperature effects and natural pressure loss through the tire.

The TPMS will continue to warn the driver of low tire pressure as long as the condition exists, and will not turn off until the tire pressure is at or above the recommended cold placard pressure. Once the low tire pressure warning (Tire Pressure Monitoring [TPM] Telltale Light) illuminates, you must increase the tire pressure to the recommended cold placard pressure in order for the TPM Telltale Light to turn off. The system will automatically update and the TPM Telltale Light will turn off once the system receives the updated tire pressures. The vehicle may need to be driven for up to 20 minutes above 15 mph (24 km/h) in order for the TPMS to receive this information.

 

Did you check your spare?

 

Drive around for a while and it should reset on its own. The spare isn't part of the system until it's being used (the sensors activate during motion). If it still doesn't reset, and there's 35psi in each, then you may have a faulty sensor....but I wouldn't expect that to be the case.

It did go out today after driving to work. Looks like that was the key. When I filled the low tire with air I was only 1/2 mile from home so it never had the chanse to reset.

I recently had to use my spare due to a nail in my right rear tire. It did not register on the tire monitor. It continued to read that tire as "0". Only after having the tire repaired and put back on did the tire monitor reset.

 

Went off again today lost 5 pounds in 2 days. Took it to local tire shop and found a screw in the meatiest part of the tread but hissed like a snake when he pulled it.

 

I have a 11 avenger where the low tire pressure sensor will not go off. I've had the tires Che ked twice and the sensors on each tire checked. All is ok. I drove 2 hours straight and the thing never turned off. I stopped and restated the car and it still flashes like crazy then stay solid warning light. Tire shop said it could be the transponder??

 

Most tire shops have a hand held device that will test the TPMS senders. Find a bigger tire shop and they can tell you which one is bad.

 

Took it to Goodyear tested the pressure and sensors all good
