Question Remote start turn off ?

Hi All:
Got a 2013 RAM quad cab 4x4 Friday and it has remote start. I got a message yesterday morning that the "Remote start cancelled, time out". I assume because I have a lot of keys and change in my pocket I set it off sometime after I put it away in the garage.
Is there any way to turn it off ? I read the operators manual and there is a setting for climate /remote start thru the radio settings, but neither myself or any of the experts at the dealership could find it.

Any help is appreciated

As you're learning, the fob for the Ram is one of the most poorly designed remotes ever. It is extremely easy to accidentally press a button when carrying it in your pants pocket. I think it sucks. Happens to me all the time.

To answer your question, I don't believe there is a way to deactivate the remote start capability.

Default remote start

i believe if you unplug the wiring to your hood latch, the remote start will think you have the hood open and will not activate.

jd.999:
What wires to the hood? The only thing that goes to the hood is the cable to open it.

there is a wiring harness that runs to the hood latch assembly. the latch has a switch built into it that will not let the remote start work if the hood is open. try opening your hood and trying your remote start. it will not work. you will need to pull the plastic cover off that is above the radiator to access the plug. the harness runs from the drivers side by the battery over to the hood switch. hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I found the switch pulled back the red plastic lock and tried to remove the plug seemed a little hard so I will get to it sometime this afternoon

I tried to disconnect the plug, pushed back the "RED" lock tab but it a little harder to pull off than I want to. You will have to understand this is a brand new truck,59 miles, and I don't want to screw up anything electrical. Is there a trick to get the plug off or just pull harder?

yes you slide the red lock tab back, squeezee the small clip like tab to release the plug. it is a weather pack connector so you have to wiggle it quite a bit until it pops off. it will seem like it does not want to come off and will suddenly let go, usually skinning your knuckles in the process. lol.

Sometimes it can be a challenge to squeeze the tabs to get them to unlock. They don't give you a lot of leverage.

Umm, I don;t get it. Do you not want to have remote start? If it timed out it is because a door or your hood was opened, not because it started. At least on my truck if it starts it just shuts off after so many minutes. If it is giving you a message that it timed out I don't think anything is wrong with it. If you unplug your hood latch connector you won't be able to start it using the remote. That said if you are keeping it in an attached garage to your house you may want to pull the remote out of your pocket as soon as you get into the house so it does not start inside. Bad news. Or you may want to put a toggle switch on the hood line so you can use it whenever it is not inside.
