2012 grill stay's in place when hood is up
Hello, I use to have a 2005 ram 2500 diesel and the grill came up with the hood, I now have a 2012 and the grill stay's in place. I was told there is a kit you can buy to make the grill come up with the hood, does anyone know of this kit and where I can buy one, thanks
Yea, they stopped the grille attached to the hood with the 3rd Gens (2008 for the 1500, 2009 for 2500/3500+). It would be cool, but I've never heard of a kit to do it. I never owned a 3rd Gen, but why would it be better exactly, is it easier to climb up there and work on the engine or something?
My two previous Ram's had the grill attached to the hood which i happened to like a lot. My 11' unfortunately has the grill that stays in place when the hood is up.
The biggest advantage for having the grill that stays with the hood is it makes accessing anything in the front of the engine compartment a breeze. You can get closer to anything in the front of the engine bay much easier since you don't have the grill holing you back. Not to mention, no grill means nothing to scratch by accident. It also makes cleaning the radiator and the coolers easier.
Having just changed both my headlight bulbs a few weeks ago it also served as a reminder as to what a poorly engineered front end these trucks have. As much as i love the look of my 4th gen, the mechanical engineers who devised the front bulb access are jerks!
What Engineer thought that it was an acceptable design for this? You need to 1, remove the top radiator shroud (6 push in tabs that often break when you remove them). 2, Then remove 4 bolts. 3, Then CAREFULLY unsnap (one wrong move and you will scratch the paint on the front bumper top panel) and remove the front grill. 4, Then remove 2 more bolts. 5, Then pop a panel in the wheel well and reach inside a small hole and feel around for a tab to unlock. All that JUST TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB is COMPLETELY ridiculous. If the grill was attached to the hood you would cut the whole bulb changing process in half!

I did foundd out you can get a :QUICK GRILLE RELEASE KIT ('10-'14) if your interested from Genos garage for like 25 bucks, I might just do that to have access to my radiator and other coolers.

As for this grill quick release system, i just wonder if their will be rattling issues since the grill will not longer be held tight by bolts? But for the price, IMO it's worth a try.
I like that quick release kit. I changed out my grille once (2009 US Sports had a chrome Laramie grille), and it wasn't a task I want to repeat anytime soon. I haven't done anything with the headlight bulbs, but I've had to change the turn signal bulbs on both sides. That wheel well access door is way too small.
