So I tried to swap a 2010 town and country RBZ radio into my 2012 ram 1500. Everytime I went to turn things back on it blew the fuse. Regardless of how many times I attempted it. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did they correct it? My current radio is the RES

 

The pinouts are different between some platforms. Just get an aftermarket unit.

 

I was hoping to still keep that stock look which is why I wanted to use a factory unit. Plus I had only paid $120 for it because where I live they aren't worth much to people

 

This should be a plug and play, the only difference is these radio's are the can bus speed. Some Chrysler units have a low speed can bus and others a high speed can bus, our trucks are the hi speed and the Town and country should also be a high speed. Even with the difference it should not blow a fuse, it just won't work.

Did you check to see if you pinched any wires? Did it work in the T&C? Plug your old radio back in, did it work?

 

Definitely something wrong with the unit you just bought or with the wiring harness connections. Plugging in a Mopar head unit from one Mopar to another a few years apart should at worst simply not turn on. I put a REC unit in my 06' Ram that came out of an 05' Chrysler 300 and it worked fine. If that model radio is not designed to work in your year truck to the point it will blow a fuse then they would put a different connector on it to prevent it from being installed.

But then again maybe Mopar is that short sighted.

 

I did check, no wires were pinched and my old unit worked again the minute I put it back in. I ended up going aftermarket as I already had a Bluetooth pioneer deck, I was just hoping I didn't have to go away from the factory look. The touch screen would have been nice to gain as well. And yes the deck did work in the town and country it was in.

 

I could be wrong but I think I remember someone saying that you have to unhook the battery and purge the power or something like that when swapping our radios. Maybe someone else will chime in.

 

I did disconnect the battery, tried multiple different things and it just blew the fuse the minute you'd reconnect the battery.
