No it is a sane practice. Lol

Those that swear by plus grades usually have really strong opinions on the matter.

And the industry "packages" it's products to attract certain buyers.

Regular gas burns hotter than premium.

Personally I want my gasoline to burn hot.

Back in the sixties cool burning premium fuel was necessary to prevent fuel knock and engine run on caused by higher compression engines.

When was the last time you experienced engine run on? That's when you turn off the engine and it starts dieseling. Never?

Put in what the manufacturer recommends. Anything else is a waste of money unless you are tuned for higher octane.

105k miles on my 2009 on 87 octane. Put in 89 when I tow, which is not very often lately. Truck runs like new, never had a CEL, doesn't burn oil between oil changes.

All my fill ups are mid grade, 89. I did have my Bully Dog tuned for super, 91+ but figured it a waste of money, no real benefits in HP. Mid grade is recommended by Ram, every once in a while, I fill up with pure gas, 91 octane.

I run 89 since I can actually feel when it has 87 in it

I have the same truck with a 3.21 axle and don't notice any difference. What do you notice?

Hell, I've been in places where the highest grade you could get was 85 and the truck ran fine, even towing.

We tried 91 and felt little slower. Get back to 89 and its just perfect.
