Vista Compatability?
My girlfriend just bought a new desktop preloaded with Vista Home Premium, and I was just wondering if anyone knew if an older version of Office (Small Business 2003) and Nortan System Works/Anti-Virus Corporate Edition would work on Vista without any issues. If it doesnt thats fine, I was just trying to save her some money since I already have the programs...
mb18 is correct. Office 2003 will work on Vista, but some of the features may not work as great as they did/do on Windows XP. I've ran both Office 2003 and Office 2007 on Vista.
As for Symantec/Norton, you have to have the Vista version in order to use it. They released a specific version that handled the security issues and also the operating system changes.
Good luck!

Alright thanks guys, at least I can save her some money so she wont have to buy a new version of Office...do you by any chance know which Symantec program will work on Vista (or will all their new 2007 software do the trick)?
Products purchased under our service plans, such as Norton Antivirus 2006 and Norton Antivirus 2007, are eligible for Microsoft® Windows Vista™ compatibility updates. Users must have a valid subscription to be eligible for the Windows Vista compatible update.

If symantec won't upgrade for free dump them and grab Avast or AVG-Free for your antivirus. I installed AVG-Free on my dad's vista laptop and it works well with vista, only had one error out of it. If you need a firewall also I believe Zonealarm's free version is vista compatible. I don't run any Norton products on my own machine, most of their stuff is bloated and slows down your machine. (The symantec corporate products are fine though, they're pretty good on resources)
By all means, stay away from McAfee!! It came pre loaded on my new computer with Vista and causes nothing but problems with constant compatability problems and updates.......McAfee says they are working on the problem......that was two months ago.

I've noticed that IE7 (internet in general) is slooooow on Vista. When I'm on DF with her computer on IE7 I can only have like one or two tabs up at most...while on my XP system with FireFox (or IE7) I can have as many as I want and they load just fine. I heard it has something to do with Vista having the capability for the new IP protocol, so Vista checks both at once and it slows down your internet (or something like that[8D]). So I switched over to Avast for anti-virus, and ZoneAlarm for firewall, no problems so far. I also downloaded FireFox onto her machine and it runs moderately better compared to IE7, but still not as good as on my XP system...
Anyone else have complaints about Vista? lol.

Yeah, a lot of things run slower with Vista. I can type 45 wpm, but now the computer can't keep up.
I find myself doing restarts/refreshes two or three times a day, sometimes more if I use the computer a lot.
If your girlfriend's computer has 512 MB of memory, that's part of the problem. Vista needs 500 MB for itself, not leaving too much for other things......

Yeah her computer has 1GB of RAM, but with how poor it runs (music even skips sometimes when running multiple programs!!) I'll probably buy her at least another gig of RAM to speed things up a bit.
