Ok, I don't know how this would affect our member numbers, but would it help to like, make it so only members could look at threads, but people could still look at the homepage?

I don't think its a good idea. It gives people a chance to read the forum and see what we have to offer. Most other forums are set up in this way also. They still have to be members to post questions. All they can do is search the database without joining.

i dont bother joining, and i bet alot of ppl would do that here too

 

ideas like that are only used on sites that are trouble sites...

 

only **** sites show the homepage and make you register to view the rest of it. except the free tour

Dude even I know that. Its the way they do it. To **** ya off so you sign up for chicks when you can go find some homeless chick on the street...I don't do that though.
