I am running IE 8. When I run a Malware scan it runs thru about 30 min worth on IE 5 Temporary Internet Files left over from the upgrade to IE 8.
The question is how can I erase them? The reason is the computer still runs a little slow with IE 8.

So you tried deleting files the conventional way? (Via the Internet Options... or in IE7/8, Tools>Delete Browsing History... or press Ctrl+Shift+Del)
If not, you can just manually delete that folder.

 

IE 5? What version of Windows do you have? Thats an old guy. Sure it wasn't IE 6?

IE 8 is always a little sluggish, IMO... even on my gaming machine here. I use Firefox mostly, loads pages faster, and usually more secure.

 

A couple of foot notes, using XP and IE 8. I have deleted IE 8 history as outlined, but not able to locate the leftover files from IE 5. I've owned this computer for some time and had 5 on it and was upgraded to IE 8 sometime ago.

Will try the manual search and delete later today.

Go in and manually delete those files. It might take some poking around on your system, but I would be willing to bet you that somewhere on your system, you have a folder named TEMP INTERNET FILES just delete it.

Once you get done with that, go to www.mozilla.com and download Fire Fox. It's free, it's faster, it's safer, and it's not a system hog like IE is. Considering that you claim the PC is old, you really need all the help you can get.

 

Well, I was able to delete the Temp files manually, they were in a hidden file because of the jump upgrade 5 to 8. Everything is running fine now. May go to Mozzilla in the near future.
Yes the computer is old, way past the best before date, should see inside of my fridge!

I don't like to give up on things to easy, drove my dad's old '66 Fargo crew cab for a long time.
