Hello, I want to change my user name. How can I perform this task?

 

Create a new Username.

 

I thought of changing mine, at least temporarily. lately its been "2 dead Dakotas"
but as it IS (hopefully) temporary I'll wait.

No, you don't make a different one, as others have suggested. That is actually against the rules, and if you are caught, you can get banned (and all future accounts as we catch them as well, or even ban you based on your IP address which pretty much stops you from ever creating a new account).

You private message any moderator, and they can get the ball rolling on a name change. You keep your account, your settings, you post count, etc. etc.
