Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 2002 intrepid with a blown motor. After doing some research and talking with Dodge, I find out there are four versions of the engine that were in this year? My mechanic buddy told me I need to find a 3.5l engine that came out of an Intrepid with the 8th digit of the VIN an M or V which specifys the type of engine that was in my car and will fit without any mods. Dodge said there was no way to look at the serial number of an engine and tell this. Am I making this too complicated or is this how it is? Help! Thanks! FYI, I searched the forum already, so if I missed a thread about this, sorry for the double post.

That info is waaaay wrong.

If you have a VIN V engine in an '02 Intrepid, direct interchange is out of an '02 Intrepid with VIN V only (300-08235C Hollander). If you don't mind swapping manifolds, you can get your engine from a the following:
