Default Just bought 2001 Intrepid SE... uh oh?

Dropped 1800 on his vehicle with 128k miles today then read also today that the engine has marvelous sludge problems? I did the VIN number and sure enough i have the oh so fun 2.7L so yeah. I am thinking i bought a vehicle with hidden problems around the corner.

The car runs great except its leaking oil from the bottom, not the top or exhaust, my dads a mechanic of 27 years and hes going to take a look at the oil problem tomorrow. Hopefully just oil pan or some seal.

Just wondering if my engine is going to (soon?, seems like this is the problem area for mileage) commit suicide. Any tips to keep it alive.

Also speakers have no audio? Radio seems to function fine? One makes a popping noise... possible blow out?

use nothing but top quality synthetic oil that is the correct viscosity.

oil leak is about 90% chance going to be a PITA to fix.

i would say a 3.2 swap is the best advice lol got my SE too about a month ago. came here, found out 2.7 was a pita. make sure water-pump is in excellent condition and check timing belt. according to my research, Mobil 1 synthetic is the best oil you can put in that engine. i sea foamed mine and just popped some mmo into engine and gas. its supposed to help break down some sludge. both sea-foam and mmo requires an oil change afterwards but mmo doesnt require it that soon
