Hi unfortunately i had to take it to an auto electrician to get it sorted out, turns out it was an issue with the wiring loom going to the tailgate.

Yes. The wiring inside the loom going from the body to the tailgate is a known issue. Wires become brittle and frayed from the constant bending when opening and closing the hatch.

Default Both rear brake lights out

Can someone tell me where I should be looking for the wiring loom for the issue? The brake lights aren't actually in the tail gate so I'm surprised this would be my issue. Is it usually in a certain area that it has issues? I have tail lights, just no brake lights, but do have the 3rd center brake like that works. Fuses looked good (does anyone know which fuses they are so I can confirm that I checked the correct ones). Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

As an added note, I read on another forum to check the brake lamp switch at the brake pedal, any thoughts on that?

If there is a problem with the brake pedal switch I would expect other problems as well. Does the cruise control work and go off when you press the brake pedal? Any check engine, ABS, or ESP traction control lights?
