Default Tpms

I have a 2011 Journey and purchased new rims and tires with the TPMS sensors installed from Discount Tire Direct. When I put the tires on the vehicle the sensors were not recongized. Thinking I had a problem with these sensors, they were OEM Mopar sensors (433mhz), I had the sensors replaced at my local Tirewarehouse store. They installed EZ-sensor (315 mhz) with the same result. In both cases the people at Tirewarehouse used their tool to see if the sensors were working and did not get any reading. I have a driven the vehicle with both sensors and they still do not registar, I have the light on all of the time for the TPMS. My next step is to put the original tires and rims on to see if the vehicle then pickes up the sensors. Any ideas why these new sensors are not working with the new tires and rims. The rims are an alloy material.

They probably gave u the wrong sensors. Have your Dodge parts dept run a Part Number check and see if the Mopar sensor you got are the right one.
U dont have to install the wheels, you can pile them up in your trunk and see if it reads, save u some work.

Default Not Sensors

I put my original tires back on and the TPMS system activated. I then went to put on the winter tires and discovered that the original rims have a series, any where from 7 to 15, what looks like maybe magnets right over the velve stem. They are marked with .25Fe. I have tried to attach a picture with this note. I am inclined to believe that these have something to do with the transmission of the signal.

Those are wheel weight for balancing the wheel, it has nothing to do with TPMS.
Please double check with your parts dept if you got the right sensor.

This may or may not save you any money. I haven't compared prices yet, BUT, a guy came in a while back with some tire sensors he bought at NAPA. Pulled them out of the box and they had MOPAR stamped on them. This was during a time when Chrysler had them on backorder. I have no idea what that's about but you may want to look into it if they're cheaper.

Why not just leave them inoperable? Are the sensors messing up your EVIC display? Maybe I'm old, but I remember a time when I used to just check my pressure occasionally in between quick visual checks to see if the tires looked ok. If your EVIC is working, just leave the TPMS system alone, IMHO.

I believe the EVIC will keep Chiming "low tire", it gets annoying. You can thank the Ford Explorer for this wonder feature.

I believe that I have discovered the problem. The Journey prior to 2011 used a 315 Mhz sensor and the 2011 uses a 433 Mhz sensor. Both Tirewarehouse and Discount Tire Direct installed the incorrect sensor (315). Discount Tire is sending me the correct Schafer 433 sensor and I will have them installed at my local Costco, which has the Tech 400 scan tool to properly set the sensor up. I will update this after I get the new sensors installed. I really do not want to leave them out as this a very usefull tool.

Hate to bring up a year old thread but does anyone know if the last post is accurate? I only ask because I just today ordered wheels and tires for my wifes 2010 Journey from Tire Rack. They are coming mounted and balanced with TPMS sensors installed. The receipt says they are 433Mhz sensors. If the last post is correct, my wifes 2010 should have gotten the 315Mhz sensors...

Mega-Hemi,

Yes the 2010 and below uses the 315MHz sensors while in 2011 they changed them to 433MHz. I finally did get the 433MHZ installed and they worked.
