2008 Journey CRD stopped during drive, repairshop claims turbo is busted
2008 Dodge Journey 2.0 CRD, 50 000KM= ~30 000 miles.
Few weeks ago my journey did not start from the parking lot. I had driven 30 mins before and everything was ok. when turning the ignition, lights went on and everything, but startmotor did not start at all. only a 'click' from the engine.
A friend on mine came and we gave extra juice from other battery and it started just fine, and run fine two weeks....
Yesterday it stopped during drive after driving only like few hundred yards (all lights flashed on dashboard and engine stopped etc). Did not start. Lights went on and everything, but startmotor did not start at all, click. same symptoms as before. Waited 30 mins, then tried again and started ok. Drove about a mile, then the same thing, stopped during drive and did not start anymore. Had to tow it to repair shop. Did not start in there either..... the repairshop guys said the error logs shows that some sensor on turbo (it's CRD) is busted and the whole turbo must be changed (3,000.00€).
I don't anything anything about cars, but for me the symptoms sounds like there's some connection issues, or that the battery or alternator or something. Can the cause really be the sensor on turbo?
Thanks guys. Would not like to pay 3,000€ and realize that their assumptions were incorrect.

I don't believe the Journey is available in North America with the CRD option, but the Volkswagon built 2.0 CRD has been a very reliable engine for years despite the fact it's a bit long in the tooth and lacks the refinement of newer generation small diesels. The Volkswagon Passat is powered by the same engine.
It's rare that the turbo is blown on this engine unless it's "pushed" hard, it's an engine/tranny combination that's pretty smooth but neither like to be pushed hard. It does happen though and is pretty easy to diagnose, so if your shop is a reputable one, it's very likely they are correct...
