Default Poor Gas Mileage

Hey, was looking for some ideas. I have a 09 Journey, I got it used about 2 months ago. The CUV only has 34k on it, but my mpg is only about 14, on average, sometimes alittle more, sometimes alittle less. I have the 19 inch optional rims since thats what came with it. I traded in my van cause i was tired of a minivan, but at least that was giving my almost 20 mpg. Any ideas what i could do to try to remedy this?

Its the 3.5L. Had it checked by my mechanic and he can't find anything wrong with it as far as alignment and air intake. He did say it might not be getting enough air but didn't notice any blockages

Odd thing is I have the same issue. For the last 6-8 months my mileage has suddenly dropped to around the exact same as yours. I keep the car well maintained and always run synthetic oil in it. I used to get 20-24 MPG. Same engine, also.

I'm about to swiss cheese my airbox. I was looking at the air flow, for the intake, and its a real bad design. I dont know what else to do.

HA, HA!! I already did that way before the gas mileage issue. See my post on a high flow intake. It added some pep and growl, but nothing for gas mileage.

There is SOMETHING wrong, but WHAT is the mystery. I have a scan tool, but I keep forgetting to scan the computer for codes. There can be an issue and a code but not set off the CEL (Check Engine Light). The CEL is typically for medium to serious issues.

I've been looking at the other posts. let me know of you see anything on your computer scan I should look for. I'm not a mechanic I know a little more then your average and learn by working on them myself.

Is there a chip out there that would work without costing an arm and leg?
