2009 Dodge Journey - Driver door wont open
Hi there.
Please can someone help me.
I have a Dodge Journey 59 plate (2009) CRD SXT 1.9Tdi and the drivers door wont open. The electrics appear to be working and the button goes up and down but the door wont open from either the inside or outside.
Ive called my local dealer who tells me its £400 to replace the latch (inc labour) but this seems awfully expensive given that friends are telling me the part costs around £20. My questions are:
a) Is it hte latch i need?
b) can i buy these from Dodge or somewhere else?
c) Is there any sort of recoding that needs to be done when its replaced?
d) Has anyone else had this trouble and if so how did they deal with it?
Thanks for your time.

a) yes, most likely. Almost everything is built into the latch.
b) no, these are solely OEM only item
c) no, they are plug and play.
d) So your door is completely stuck close? Honestly, I can't really think of a way to gain unlatch the door without breaking something like the inside door panel.
Even if they can get the door open, changing the latch is roughly a 1-2 hour job.

Too late for the OP but for what it's worth, this sounds identical to what's happening to mine (60 reg, 2010, 2.0 RT).
To get the door working again I disconnected the battery, grounded it on the body and reconnected it. It's happened again and again since then and booked into the dealer on Monday week.
It's still under warranty (just), so I'm hoping it'll all be well in the end!

Since most everything is computer controlled on vehicles these days... I would start with dosconnecting the battery for a bit, like has been suggested, and go from there.
