Default High idol and stalling

First time posting on forum. I have a 2009 Dodge Journey 100k km. which suddenly started to idol higher then normal. Idol sitting at around 1500 rpms after cold start. When engine is revved and rpms drop below the 1500 car sounds and feels like its try to stall out. Revs drop below 1000 then above 1000, over and over again till car is shut off. It's as if I had my foot on gas and was quickly revving the engine repeatedly.

Following that problem is a more serious issue. When car is put into either reverse or drive and rpms drop below the 1000 rpms car just stalls out. Car needs to be shut off and then turned on again in order for it to be driven. At this point however car is not driveable as it goes less then 20-30 feet without stalling.

Engine light is on but not able to test codes on it at this time. Looking for any ideas as to what would be causing the rpm issue which appears to be affecting the stalling issue as well.

Thanks.

Have you had the intake assy cleaned or inspected at anytime in the 100k kms?

bigtsr - I don't believe so. I am wondering if its possibly fuel pump, fuel filter (which hasn't been replaced) or electrical. Car starts without issue, its only after a period of about 10-15 seconds after starting do the issues start.

Car has been nothing but issues since we bought it. Massive lemon.

Default Quick update

Started the car cold last night and right away notice an unusual sound from the engine. I noticed that every 5-7 seconds I could hear what sounded like, to me, almost like a Windex bottle being sprayed.

Right away my first guess was that theres a problem with the fuel injector and it wasnt keeping enough fuel in the engine. It's definitely a sound that I'm unfamiliar with in the engine and from other research online it seems that a bad fuel injector could potentially cause the symptoms were having.

Any thoughts would be help.

Thanks.

You didn't say which engine it 4/6 but the air/fuel intake systems
are complex with shutters/small servos etc.
I know on the 4s used in the Calibers(same as DJs) they get really
cranky with similar symptoms if anything in the runners carbons up.
It maybe a matter of just cleaning it with proper product.

The proper product can mean a lot of things.

Try the easy stuff first. Put some injector cleaner in the system, Clean out the throttle body and the Idle control items, Clean the PCV valve, and just give it a good once over for cleaning and inspection of vacuum lines.

I would also suggest using Seafoam when you have the idle going high. I have used seafoam with great results. Just follow the directions and use the large break booster vacuum line while the car is idling and slowly pour it in there as to not kill the car.

If there is too much carbon or other contaminants in the system, you will need to physically remove the throttle body, injectors, intake, etc. and hit it with a good cleaner.
